Re: [diesel_mercedes] manual transmission ???

I'd try to get one from a 240D.  You will probably find that it would be cheaper to have yours rebuilt than try to retrofit a trans from something else or another trans of the same vintage.  Of course if you could find an 85 240D 5 speed that would be a super swap.  My crystal ball tells me that it will cost what it will cost.

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: Re : top of air cleaner with oil on it

I switched the breather hose to the NEW one I bought from Autohausaz and no more leak...at least there.

I put in a couple of quarts of 20/50.  Didn't drive very far so I don't know how well that slowed down the main seal leak.  I'll be going into town today, I'll see how it does.

I laughed when I realized that I left the keys in the car all weekend.  I told Kevin they wouldn't get out of the driveway. He said even if they did we could easily follow them!  The grass in the middle of the driveway right before you get to solid ground is acting like a brush to clean the under side of my car!

OH I figured out what that weird screaming noise was last Thurs evening...the red neck window switch was wedged ON and it was the motor burning out.

Awesome. Gonna be sunny & around 80 degrees all week. Summer is almost here and I've got ONE window and a sunroof!  Thankfully it's the drivers window that works! :)  If not I'd have to get out there and do some tinkering. I have some of the switches I need, but they really messed up the center part...I'll have to get to a PAP to find that.  I need a couple of other things too from a PAP...the fan on front for the a/c which is disconnected right now and a washer water reservoir...which I recently realized was missing! Got too many other things to do...job hunt, finish the "new" chicken coop, get the garden done, make cat food, walk dogs....

What kind of oil is in it? You know they take ATF. Max

I have one. It's attached to the rest of the car right now. Runs and shifts fine. Max

[diesel_mercedes] Re: Re : top of air cleaner with oil on it

None of my 240's or my 190 had one(the separator). Both my 240's now dont leak and the air cleaner stays clean of oil, very nice..The 190 had a cleanable wire mesch air cleaner that after cleaning I put a little oil in it.That car used oil just sitting around, but it didn't leak much I think it drank it. I had a 1977 240 and I tried to find one for that car but I sold it. It would soak up the air filter with oil in a very short time of driving. Max

Changed it about a year ago and just checked it's topped off. It's unfortunate also because and then the transmission this car is in great shape

My manual transmission is wining very loud on my 83 240D.  Know of any source of a good manual transmission that will fit this car.

Also how much should it cost.

No one told me about those allen bolts in the mounts,I used a sledge hammer to try and bust it loose.

If a hex head , it'll either be a 17 0r 13 MM . if an allen head , it'll be a 6MM IIRC .

Loking at the size of the threaded hole in the motor mount picture , should tip you to what to expect ~ 10MM theeads , 17 MM head bolt .

8MM threads , 13MM ATF or 5/6 MM allen headed bolt .

In either case ,_NOW_ , before you begin to work on them , is the time to get some coveralls or old clothes and at least four cans of de greaser and some brushes , a couple paint brushes and one long stiff bristle solvent brush and go to town cleaning the engine and the uniboby as believe me , there's going to be oil soaked road grime you cannot imagine , in every nook and cranny way up underneath .

DO THIS NOW so it'll be dry in a week or so when you attack it .
