Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: What happened to the off topic purge?

I agree...thanks to everyone on the board who has helped me, too. I've learned quite a bit of stuff other than MBs that has been useful, as well....like not gliding in  Neutral...never knew that was bad......I didn't know that a 300D auto tranny could be push started, and so forth..

Sad to be missing out on all of the excellent advice/information from you Nate.  But some people like to cut off their noses just to spite their faces.  Oh well.  I'll keep reading your posts! :)

[diesel_mercedes] The Joys of PAP'ing

Things are slow, so - my windshield washer in Mary ceased to pump water. Being a resourceful lad, I tracked things back to the pump. Thought I would clean it up and discover what was wrong with it, but then I dug through my PAP "inventory" and discovered (3) extra pumps laying there, and decided "why pick them up if I'm not going top use them. So, out with the old and in with the new (sort of) and eureka, I can squirt my windows once again. Thinking of a new handle for this forum "Have Parts. Will Travel" ala Will Pallidin.

On a more serious note - have to stop in on a fellow down the street. For a year or two he has had a 1985ish SDL sitting parked gathering dust way back in his yard. Suddenly it is gone and in its place is a 1984ish yellow w123 that looks like it is going to be parked also. Got to find out what he is up to.

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re : OUCH

Hell NO!  We have a NO MORE animal rule around here.

Wages around here suck. Right now I"m making $10/hr doing full service book keeping, A/P, A/R, Payroll, taxes, GL and receptionist, plus now that they have me on board and know I'm stuck (I couldn't turn down the job or I'd lose my unemployment) I find out the job description was false. I thought I was replacing one part time person (the owners aunt). Not so, I'm also replacing the full time president, (wife, that clears over $1200 a week)  so I'm also doing all of the filing, invoicing, deposits, job schedules and what ever else they throw at me.  They don't like me, I don't like them, (it's a family owned place, a nephew is the estimator and their only son is a lead electrition.) From what I've been told by the non-family workers, he does not work and calls his partner his "wetback" and when questioned he points to the sign on the truck saying "see that? That's MY name on the truck! Seems to me he needs to be taken down a notch.  The husband/wife had it handed to them on a silver platter from his dad who started the business) but we're stuck together for now.  They can't get rid of me now with my health crap going on.  Here in TX they still pay waitresses $2.13/hr!  That's what I made when I moved here in 1992 after the Rodney King fiasco.  It wasn't always like this for us.  I used to clear $1784 a WEEK, then came the greedy crash of the Information Technology industry for the Dallas area.  I went from that to working at Walmart for $8/hr.

Whew, just woke up from the best sleep I've had in two weeks. I put a chicken in the oven to roast and took a nap.  Kevin let me sleep until he had everything ready to put on the table and was shocked that I didn't budge till he came in and kissed me.  He was also shocked that I didn't wake up freaked out when he touched me.  I was OUT like a rock.  So looking forward to a good nights sleep.

213 miles , a/c on the whole time , 21.0 MPGs .

SWMBO says it stalled in reverse again too , it always runs *perfectly* for me so maybe the engine is just plain old worn out .

She'd told me we're rebuilding the engine and trans this August but I'll belive it when I see the necessary $ .

I'm pleased she likes the car sufficiently to want to repair it .

[diesel_mercedes] Re : Front End Shimmy Question..

First thing is to air up the front tires to 40 # and then grab then at 9 & 3 O'clock and see if there's any looseness or play , then place both hands on the top of the tire and see if it move in or out ~ do this with the tires on the ground as well as with the car up in the air and safely blocks as shimmy can be caused by a mryad of things but most common is play or looseness .

then spin each tire and see if the centerline of the treads wobbles back and forth , if so check to see if the rim is bent or the tires is damaged from the collision .

As far as tie rods & links etc. , I vastly prefer manual separating tools (" Pickle Fork ") and a 7 # " Single jack Hammer over air tools as air tools tend to beat things up .

Remember whilst you have the ends off , tape a degree wheel (free on line) to the steering wheel and count the turns from one lock to the other , divide my 1/2 and tun that many , wherver it stops is the exact center of the steering box regardless of the steering wheels poition , many cars do not have properly centered steering boxes and the drivng improvement will amaze you .

Check the longitudal track rods where they attach to the body as those bushings often go bad .

Now , can I talk about OnLine dating ? . =8-)

[diesel_mercedes] Re: front end alignment question..

...I'm actually leaning toward a misbalanced tire.

If I hit a bump in the road, above 50mph, and the vibration starts, and cresendos up from there. Taping the brakes is enough to stop it, if I do it early enough, but if I don't, I'll have slow to 45mph.

I remembered having the same problem with an old F-150 I had..

As I recall, I pulled the valve stem, added a few ounces of antifreeze, and drove it till she dropped..

So I guess that'll be next..

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: What happened to the off topic purge?

Just to keep on subject:

I was tinkering with my 1981 300SD turbo DIESEL MERCEDES BENZ just prior to being bitten. I looked at my 1981 300SD turbo DIESEL MERCEDES BENZ when we took the truck to the ER and I sure was wishing I my 1981 300SD turbo DIESEL MERCEDES BENZ running so I could have driven it to the ER for the four visits I've made so far this week.

Oh and my name is TRISH not Tish.

And again I point out that those that are crabby have never added anything useful to the list only complaints.  Never asking questions or offering advice.  I could care less if my stuff ends up in the trash.  I too am fond of the DELETE key.  I am also fond of some of the people on the list and enjoy knowing we are all human and can help each other in life not just in dealing with our Mercedes Benz Diesels.

Snark :)

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re : OUCH

Here's the story....

We have ten dogs.  We have them in two groups.  The old timers that includes Lucky who has been with us since 2000 and is now 13, Sadie, Gabby, Bart and Zeke. They have been with us for 7yrs to 4yrs.

Then we have the new comers/puppies...Levi who is a year old now, his mom Glory, Bleu & Stephan. The boys are all about the same age and get along.

We had the "big" group out, the old timers, feeding, playing, walking.  Kevin thought (thinking isn't knowing) he had them put away before he let out the next group.

Zeke, border collie has been with us since '08 had gone down to the creek or where ever.  He came bounding up to be greeted by the others.  He was a bit freaked out, the youngsters were all "hey let's play". They know each other through the fence, but not face to face for safety reasons.

Glory was supposed to be on her tie out.  She saw Zeke and Levi so she rushed over to protect her son.  Kevin and I both ran for her, we were on opposite sides. We both dove for her leash, both missed.  She dove for Zeke, I had an immediate flash back to being bitten 33yrs ago so I threw my hands up and sort of fell backwards, not knowing as I did so it thrust my thigh forward, right into her mouth! It was done in a blink, but also slow motion!  She knew what she did immediately and let go, but not before her top right canine was buried in my leg, her bottom left canine didn't go in as far, her tiny teeth in between didn't phase me, but did leave an imprint.

I rushed to the house to wash my leg with blue dawn then peroxide, not having a clue how deep it was.  Kevin came in and I decided I could no longer stand on one leg, so we headed to the shower.  Our peroxide has a squeeze top so he was really forcing it into the top hole where it filled a cavity to my knee and came out the bottom hole and forced raw chicken out that she had been eating seconds earlier.  Once all the meat was out we stared at each other both asking "now what?"  I didn't want to go but we headed to the local Ennis ER.  After 30 minutes we heard someone else say they'd been there for 6 hours. Meanwhile they called in a woman with a toddler that had nothing wrong with him.  He had been munching on soda and potato chips, running all over the place, crawling under and over the chairs.  I said "I'm starved, we're leaving". We stopped at the grocery store for fresh raw garlic, one of the best natural antibiotics you can get and more peroxide.

I started a new job the next day so I toughed it out all week.  I stayed on the raw garlic, peroxide (HUGE MISTAKE!!!)  Olive Leaf, Oregano oil, Grapefruit Seed Extract...all antibiotic, antimicrobial, antibacterial. I also took Collidal silver and used it on the wound and used tea tree oil.

Last Sunday I was awakened at 4am with an indescribable pain.  It felt like there was a hot knife in there and it was a constant pain, not throbbing.

That night, after I had dropped Kevin off at work I sat here at the PC wondering "what IS that smell" then it hit me!!  Gangrene!  Then it all flooded back, the pain, the smell, from my Brown Recluse Spider bite in '03.

I googled it, and after txting my sister and calling Kevin decided we were all too tired to deal with it that night, but I had made up my mind I was going to Methodist hospital first thing Monday morning.  I stopped by work to tell them I was headed to the doctor right then.  She was a bit po'd but tough.  Kevin's brother told us not to go to "big" Methodist, it's in the "hood" and always busy but go down to Mansfield.  I was happy we did.  Within 30 mins I was in a room and hooked to IV antibiotics.  I went through 2 bags of it over 6 hours.  They threatened to keep me over night!  They let me go with the promise that I would get the antibiotic prescription filled, if not I HAD to come back!  My sister stepped up and paid for it and was reimbursed by St Vincent De Paul, who her husband works with.  I had to go back on Wed, at which point they sucked out the infection which was from mid thigh to my knee.  They packed it with antibiotic gauze and had me come back on Thurs when they repacked it, thankfully it didn't hold nearly as much!  I just got back from my fourth visit and have to go back on Tues!  I'm also on 1200 mg of one of the most potent antibiotics they could find.  They were a bit freaked out by the depth of the bite and level of infection and wondered how it got so bad so fast.  It was the peroxide!

The only thing I did wrong was the peroxide.  It kills off the new skin cells!

Now the joke was on ME!  Someone ratted me out animal control.  They had been crawling all over the farm for two weeks.  Cost me my entire tiny two week unemployment check to get a vet to do a farm visit to get everyone up to date on rabies vaccination.  That was on Tues, I was bitten on Sunday!  KARMA huh?  She would have been quarantined, me given rabies shots!

I haven't slept but 3-4 hrs each night and it was fraught with unrest due to pain and pain meds, which I am no longer taking.  The doc on Thurs explained why they weren't working anyhow, raw nerves inside.  Store brand advil works better as it takes down the swelling and doesn't make me feel weird or give me weird dreams.  Now that they packed it with antibiotic gauze it's amazing.  ONE day and it was so much better.  The doc I saw on Thur was freaked out by how much the doc got in there on Wed, but she wasn't able to get as much in, meaning it IS healing!  She says the gauze is to help it heal faster and it takes up the space so the infection has no where to grow.  The doc today didn't put in as much, wanting it to heal from the inside.

thanks for the prayers.

Time for a snack and a nap.  HOT here!  Been having to drive Kevin's F250.  My car is still down. :(  I'm actually supposed to be on here digging up an email from the list about switching the fuel filters and bleeding the injectors and if there is supposed to be any air! :)
