I had to put a new end on the line that goes to my heater tonight. It's plugged in tonight for the first time. Temp is expected to drop to 16 degF. Barely started without it this morning. Took two tries and a longer than usual crank. This car must start every day to earn its keep.

Mercedes has a very specific cold weather starting drill, few ever follow it .

The easiest thing to do is wait for the seatbelt lamp to quit, it stays on slightly longer than does the glow plug lamp .

Remember too : the glow plug lamp goes out before the glow plugs stop heating, it's worth your time to listen and learn when the loud " CLICK " indicating the relay has stopped and only engage the starter *just* before it goes CLICK .

[diesel_mercedes] Fuel Economy Check '84 300CD Slushbox

 

380 miles, 23.2 MPG ~ I think the last tank was 24MPG .

Silver bottle Diesel Kleen used, still getting black super fine crud in the micronic paper element filter I'm running in the fuel return line .

The dang odometer got stuck ~ the middle number reel stayed on '9' for a while so next time I have to compensate for that when I do the fuel economy check .

Correct .

The white bottle supposedly has anti - gelling additives too .
