The Prince Of Darkness =8-) .

As Joseph once said : A Gentleman has no business Motoring about After Dark .

In truth , most Lucas stuff is just fine , it just suffers from _zero_ lack of quality control at the production point .

I routinely take apart 50 year old Lucas Electricals , including that weird combination head light and ignition switch , clean , polish & lubrcate them , re assemble and VIOLA ! they work fine .

The ' Deck Lid ' is the trunk lit or ' boot ' .

Anyways , use carpeting from a Marine Supply Store .

Consider having that backlight tinted too ~ I no longer have the 3M info sheets but they make one that's not very dark but stops 90 + % of the UV .

Well ;

Let's have a look :

Diminuative size , check .

Tiny little engine , check .

Fun to drive but a TOTAL DEATHRAP , check .

Leaks oil like a sieve no matter what you do and has below any charts poor initial build quality , check .

Made in the damp Isle of Jolley Old Englande , _CHECK_ .

So , what's not to like nor think it's not an LBC ? .

Interestingly , most LBC FHC's leak water in the rain , nearly as badly as the DHC's do . go figure .

" Why , when Brittany rules the waves , will her cars not go through a puddle ? " .

[diesel_mercedes] OT - fun movie for car fans

For those who haven't seen it, the movie "In Time" has some interesting old cars.  Even though it is set in the future, the rich people all drive 60s Lincolns (moderately customized).  The cops drive 67 Challengers (more customized, but still recognizable).  The hero goes to a car dealer who has a Citroen CM, an Avanti, etc.  He buys a Jaguar XKE convertible.  They all seem correct.  Only the XKE, one of the Challengers, and one of the Lincolns get wrecked.

I'm sure Hollywood considers this a B movie, but it is pretty good for a B movie.  Even though the star is Justin Timberlake and he has to carry the movie, he does an credible job and does not sing.

(Disappointment - no convertible Lincoln's.)

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: Old pickup trucks

My mind was running along those lines, I have a nearly worn-out '89 Dodge that contains a nicely broken in 12 valve B6, but I want to spend some time with the 304 V8 before I decide to replace it, it has a pretty good reputation as a "forever" engine.  The 304 is said to weigh 700 lbs, the B6 about 1000 lbs,, couple more leaves in the front stack would handle that without issue, but if the 'binder motor is in good shape, I'll likely keep it a while..

GEE, this brings back some wonderful memories, an a comment from this old gear head too, The perfect combo, this old IH Heavy duty PU truck with a 6BT Cummins Diesel  installed, one would have a good truck for the rest of your life.  Especially if its rust free.   My two Cents, Doug Traylor
PS a good rust free TravelAll would do for me.

Yep, that's the one.. New Process 202 transfer case, sourced from a military 6x6, the thing weighs 195 lbs, all gear drive..

My brother and I had a 65, 66, 67 IH, I think it was a tonner, it WAS 4x4 with a GEAR DRIVE transfer case.....

The sticker on the dash explained it all..

FOR NON-ROAD SURFACES ONLY..

Manual Hubs, and a Low range that was about walking speed in 1st gear..

We called her "Lucifer" because she'd been to Hell and back, and we were intent on getting her back there..

I sometimes wonder, after we sold her, what became of her.. We'd replaced the cab and bed, and driven her for some time before my brother left for the USAF in '82..

*sigh*

Wouldn't one of those be great with a 5 cylinder turbodiesel.. :)

IIRC it was a "divorced" transfer case, so it WOULDN'T be impossible.. :)

[diesel_mercedes] Old trucks

I just sold a '68 Kaiser Jeep Wagoneer that had 55,000 original miles on the motor.  It was supposed to be a replacement for my rusty Olds, but once we got it home I determined it was far more vehicle than I wanted to deal with on so many levels.  So I sold it and part of the money bought my MB!

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Parting 77 240D

Hey Bogy,

Nope, no manual.  It is actually an interestingly optioned car.  Automatic, stereo, cruise, no air conditioning, no passenger mirror, etc.  The car was purchased in the US and then delivery was taken in Germany.  Get me on the Autobahn with 62 bhp!!!

Mostly curious. That's dangerous enough right now.
