Re: [diesel_mercedes] motor mounts.

What year/model of Mercedes Diesel do you have?  My first one, a '78 300D, had this problem until I changed the engine and transmission mounts.  It also vibrated when started or during shutdown.  I hope that they didn't loosen the stripped bolt to the point where it's going to fall out.  It needs to be addressed.  It could put stress on the other mounts as well as the rest of the drivetrain if the engine isn't in proper alignment.  Either make them fix it right or take it to another shop to fix it.  I'm about to change the motor mounts on my newly purchased 1977 240D, my second time doing the job.  If you were close to me, I would help.

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Oh come on, it could have happened to any of us!

That was quite funny, Trish!  I have to do something about the stereo situation in Liesel, the 240D.  It is one of those removable face plate types with a missing face plate!  I would like to find the correct face plate, but I'll have to take the stereo out of the dash to determine the make and model since the front of it is blank.  I know that the ash tray has to be removed to get to the two Phillips head screws behind it.  Then, the plate with the hazzard switch (and power window switches if you have them) has to be slid backward to free up the rear pin.  Beyond that, what does it take to remove the stereo?

Liesel did well today, a 15 mile drive around town to do a few errands.  She's running great on the Mobil 1 synthetic oil.  The parts will be here tomorrow, rear engine mount, 8MM 1/2" drive Allen hex for the lower bolts, Monark primer pump, and the most important thing, the hood star, of course!

[diesel_mercedes] Monark Primer Pump

That's why I sprung for it...am currently running a homebrew blend...and DPO told me the primer pump (bosch) was new, and it seems like it's leaking already. It might not actually be failing and might be leaking nearby or whatever, but I bit the bullet anyway.

Price was $6 more for the Monark pump, but I decided to go with it anyway. It̢۪s compatible with biodiesel and veggie oil where the Bosch primer pump is not.

[diesel_mercedes] Oh come on, it could have happened to any of us!

Last week when my car started smoking Kevin pulled the stereo out and I had him completely disconnect it.

Now that we know the smoking was from the loose bolt on the ground wire to the starter, I asked him to reinstall my stereo.  It worked for a few minutes, then quit.

So this morning I was trying to figure out which wires he thought he crossed.  I had to pull it out to see.  Nothing. Huh.  So I checked the fuses.  Ah, that was it.

I'm ready to go to town now that I know what the issue is.  Hmm, car won't start. That's odd I had it running a few minutes earlier.  I tried and tried. Nothing, not even the "click" sound we heard the other day with the loose wire.  OK, doesn't make sense, but I'll check the fuse box and see if I did something weird.  No.  The stereo is disconnected.

Arrrgh!  Tears starting to well up now...NOW what???  The battery cables are tight.  The cable to the starter feels tight. I don't see anything hanging down.

I get Kevin on the phone "Well, I had it running just a little while ago when I started messing with the stereo and I had to pull the...car...into...low...to..get..the...stereo...out...OH..Um, oh man, I can't believe I did that!  Ah hahahaha..listen! It started right up when I put it in Park!"

He informed me from 50 miles away, as if he can control ME, that I'm grounded until I learn how to drive my car!  hahaha  good one.

Car running and into town I went.  Had some delicious chicken (that's what they said they were made of!) tacos at a mexican grocery/ deli!

Now that the groceries are in it's time to move it to level ground to check oil consumption. Then get busy on the garden since I bought loads of veggies and herbs yesterday!

BTW yesterday I turned over 1000 miles on the "new" motor.

anyhow i drove my car away and now whenever i apply my brake when coming to a stop the car Thuds almost like a downshift. my car never did this before for the last 9 years i owed it. any idea what they screwed up to cause this?

thanks in advance !
