Glad to hear it's coming home , be ready to wail in anguish when you see all the damage done to it....
If you look in my older posts , I wrote a detailed how to easily find leaks and to know what system it is with the leak..
i'll give it a go again if you want , might take me some time though .

[diesel_mercedes] Antenna Fiddles
It all depends on the traffic ~ this morning @ 04:30 I was held up getting on near the Northern terminus of the I-110 freeway but as soon as I got to the bottom of the ramp , I pulled out and passed the new Mercedes and the racer-ricky truck , spooled it up to 85 and was in down town in a *very* brief time .
The antenna , differes ~ if there's a hexoganal nut at the base , you need to loosen this and then have SWMBO turn the key on whilst you pull on it and it'll spool all the way out before the motor stops running ,in about 12 seconds.
If you just pull the antenna shaft out after unscrewing the base nut , about 1/2 the time it'll break the internal drive & ruin the whole thing .
If , OTOH , there's a funny looking black rubber grommet / ball thing in the fender where the antenna pokes through , you can just dismount it inside the trunk & work it down & out for service , replace the grommet as it's cheap but it'll still leak into the trunk anyways .

(who loves brute force & ignorance)
Nate, how far up the I 110 can you get in 15 minutes?????
But really my radio has quit, the antenna is at half mast and stuck, I do have a
new pap antenna, what are the odds that it is the antenna at fault. & how does
the trunk liner come out do I use brute force and ignorance, or can I finness
it?

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: MPH & Fuel Economy
At the Post Office yesterday, found a golf car parked in front, owner came out as I was dismounting. I smiled an asked him if that was one of those new Chevy Volts, he said no, it was a Yamaha. Looks just like a golf cart, is powered by some kind of minute Yamaha single, maybe 125 or 250cc. Guy said he was on the seme gallon of gas for the last three weeks, didn't mention distance driven. I resurrected my 1978 Motobecane moped. 120 mpg or more. Problem is
legal maximum speed is 30 mph but with tweaking I can get 38 mph on the
flat. Would be great around town but I live in rural area where speed
limit is generally 45 mph. Economically it is not practical after
paying registration and insurance. It makes you feel like you are doing
something to save gas but at a cost.

[diesel_mercedes] Back in Good Hands
My MB turbo coupe is on it's way from NC to Texas on the back of a big truck. I was surprised I could get it shipped from there to here for $550 bucks. I doubt I could have driven it from there to here for that price.
After many months in the hands of a really good every other kind of car mechanic, he ultimately failed at finding a vacuum leak. His last suggestion was to put on a vacuum pump and it was at that point I said we will quit here.
It should be in Houston first of next week. Prepare to answer many questions for me as I work to sort out this issue. In the end, you guys were right with the advise to get it our of his hands and back into mine.

Lately, I've been looking at my BMW moto '80 R100RT, and thinking I
should ride this more often with the fuel prices as they are. I don't
know what it exactly gets for mileage, as I always steal gas from it to
run the wood chipper et al, yet obviously a lot better then the MB.

[diesel_mercedes] Tires and fuel economy
I have 17" AMG wheels on my '92 300D which never managed to get better than 28.5 mpg either on stock wheels or on the 225/45 17 Toyo Proxess 4 tires that were recently on it. I switched to Nokian Entyres in 225/50 17 for a 3.51% increase in rolling diameter 2 weeks ago and took a road trip from Everett WA to Portland. After correcting the odometer error for the slightly larger tires I computed 35.5mpg. Now I know that part of that 25% increase is due to the greater rolling diameter (3.51%) but I find it hard to swallow that the rest came from the lower rolling resistance of the tires. They do coast much further and the amount of accelerator pedal needed to move the car is palpably less.
[diesel_mercedes] Re: Re : MPH & Fuel Economy
My '69 slabside Shovel bobber gets 45mpg, handles "OK" with the girder front end and starts within 3 kicks.
Re: [diesel_mercedes] MPH & Fuel Economy
Lately, I've been looking at my BMW moto '80 R100RT, and thinking I
should ride this more often with the fuel prices as they are. I don't
know what it exactly gets for mileage, as I always steal gas from it to
run the wood chipper et al, yet obviously a lot better then the MB.
