[Diesel-RVs] New Pump INSTALLED TODAY!Cummins ISC leaking fuel from lift pump (ULSD warning)

Mike, All, FYI. Yep ULSD got to my lift pump like the Cummins warning
said it will leak out of the gasket between the pump and the mount
AND throught the pump and out the electrical connector. It was
leaking both places!! Tomorrow I'll see what the guts look like, the
entire old assy is down in a bay.

The new lift pump assy is installed $664 total ($280 Pump/Misc
Parts, $344 Labor $86/hr X 4 hours, +misc shop stuff and tax.) They
had a bad time getting one mount bolt loose. Before it was loose the
engine rock guard was off, the main fuel filter assy was off, the
two smaller lines and one larger line were off, the ECM connectors
were tied out of the way, the starter was off and two guys worked
together (one top one bottom, for at least an hour.) They started at
8:15 and finished around 3, but the shop manager only charged me for
a total of 4 hours labor. I drove it about 80 miles after, works
good no leaks. I'm sure glad I didn't try to change it... there just
aren't enought bad words to cover the job... Tomorrow I will crawl
around underneath and satisfy myself that it's all back together...
Airplane guys should understand "Final QA/QC"

Thanks for all of the inputs,
-Les Crawshaw

It has a number, Topic Number 06T5-18. It is a seven page bulletin.
It deals with ISX, ISC, & ISL engines. There are numerous part
numbers depending upon the serial number of the engine and their
manufacture date.

the copy is not good enough to upload to this forum. Incidentally
this was sent to me at the same time the Jacksonvile Cummins store
was telling Jim & Karen that there was no fix for their lift pump,
and this may be true because Cummins did go to a non-repairable pump
and they may have had one of these.
>
> Since the bulletin was seven pages, it is highly unlikely anyone
read it. I had to give the number to the Tampa store to get them to
send it to me. The parts man had not seen it before. I got it from
someone in Alabama who responded to general inquiry that I had put on
the internet.

[Diesel-RVs] Re: Practicalities

Bob, you missed my point: YOU should be checking the pressures in
your tires. I never trust these tire guys...they're always in a big
rush and are someone at the bottom of the heap when it comes to auto
mechanics...they remind me of the guys at race tracks who collect the
battered motorcycles and flat bed them back to the pits.

What you are failing to consider is the fact there is Right handed
Nitrogen and Left handed Nitrogen. You must add both to your tires in
order to make any kind of a turn. At least that's what I've been told.

[Diesel-RVs] Update on flat towing a 2005 Ford F-150 Manual Trans 2 wheel drive

Hi Group,

After countless days and hours online researching and personally speaking
with many people at Ford dealers and the Ford Motor Company Relationship
Center I "Think" I finally have it resolved.

First the rundown.
(6) Ford dealers called said No I cant flat tow.
(4) Ford dealers called said Yes I can.

Remco said Yes. Any manual Trans 2 wheel drive can be flat towed and my Ford
F150 had no towing speed limits.

Ford Motor Company Relationship Center, first misquoted the manual and then
the 05 Ford Motorhome towing guide. After I pointed out that the info they
presented did not cover the stick shift F-150 2 wheel drives they wanted to
give up and refer me to a dealer again. I said I had already got
conflicting info from the dealers I had contacted. After over an hour and a
half on the phone they said No it couldn't be flat towed. When I then
pressed for an explanation as to why not I was passed up the food chain and
asked to leave my VIN # with a promise that I would receive a call in less
than 24 hours with a determination. Well low and behold I just received a
return call in just under the 24 hour time frame with a YES I can tow my 05
Ford F-150 manual transmission 2 wheel drive. But speed must be held under
55 MPH.

I was tempted to ask why only 55 but left well enough for today. When I
asked for a hard copy of the determination that it could be towed I received
a firm NO we don't do that. But being persistent I found out that it was now
a permanent part of Ford records under the VIN #. Unless somebody deletes
the record I am covered for 5 more months of warranty flat towing however
good or bad that may turn out. Just to be sure I called Ford again and had
them check their records under my Vin # and believe it or not their flat
towing Yes answer was noted.

Don't you just love a happy ending ? Thanks for all the replys.

Not much of one. We have readings of the pressure in all tires,
including the toad, in the MH. If I'm 2 PSI low in one of them, drive by
the front of the stalls, whether towing or in the toad, and ask them to
add a couple PSI. Sure, with air could just as easily do it myself, but
chances are it will be much, much longer before more nitrogen is needed.
