[diesel_mercedes] Getting Ready

 


For a road trip to Las Vegas next month ~ the 1982 240D's ball joints have been knocking a bit, I had them replaced some years ago, I wasn't allowed to provide the new ball joints so I imagine I got some Chinese or other crappy ones .


He flat refused to rebuild the entire front suspension like I wanted so now I'm having it all done, using almost everything from M-B Germany thanks to Tom at

the M-B Classic Center in Irvine, Ca. ~ there was only -one- part they couldn't supply so I got a Lemforder center link .


Because the car is out of service I had to ride my tiny little 1970 Honda CT90k2 trail bike down the Pasadena / Harbor freeways this morning, I waited until the full rush hour crush so the speeds wouldn't exceed 45 ~ 50 MPH, often it was slower than that .


I'll have to ride it back home again to - morrow morning, whew .

Thinking about Brian's story is how you end up buying a skid plate off eBay.
Having Bilstein HDs also help keep the bounce down.

I don't think I've ever been airborne in my MB, yet it did feel pretty loose at the crest of every hill on the 120 near Mono Lake, coming from NV hwy 6, and of course bottomed out in every trough, one after another. It was kinda fun, yet decided I didn't want to rip the pan out there in the middle of nowhere, so I slowed down.

These things don't fly well. Going up is fine, but coming down, well...
