Picture posted of 300D in pretty good shape for a PAP yard, kind of hidden behind everything else at Monrovia PAP. Tomorrow or Friday I will take a look at Ontario and Pomona. Don't really have any room for more "stuff" but it is always nice to know where things are.

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Cheap W-114
What's the deal with the M-110 engine? I know it's widely despised, but have never heard specifically why.. bk --- On Wed, 8/22/12, Nate <vwnate1@yahoo.com> wrote:

O.K. , many here polly have doors that don't like to unlock with the key but otherwise work fine , this is uaually caused by the exterior handle being incorrectly installed so the locking shaft , drops down and doesn't go into the special funnel shaped device that connects the key's twisting motion to the latch proper .
This piece is _plastic_ on the later models and so rots, cracks , breaks etc. , the DPM in SWMBO's '82 240D broke it when they stupidly did God knows what to the door , I had to work in there years ago when first we bought the car , last Saturday Tom located me an untouched '79 TD so I yanked the door latch out of it for the '82 .
This delicate piece is made of pot metal in the '79 and appears to work fine , to - day's the day I'll address it as she's out of town the entire week so I can tinker ot my heat's content and not rush the job , doors are a serious PIA most of the time , once in a while it goes easily , I hope this one does .
I also have to address the LR door's broken off lock button and maybe open up the RR door and replace the bad vacuum chamber as that's the _only_ vacuum lock on the whole car I've not yet replaced .
Well , that's it for now , the sun is up so off I go to work .

It occurred to me later, that the manufacturer probably intends the solution to be basic pH=8 probably to compensate for acidity that any residual antifreeze may have (excess OH ions are produced when water is added). In addition, if the head gasket is marginal, an acidic flush might cause a breach (which is probably inevitable, anyway) but could be attributed to the flush and subject the manufacturer to liability.

[diesel_mercedes] Re: Cheap W-114
It is in Wa. State , the Eastern side is jamb - packed with rust free older vehicles , always has been .
I have no idea where in Wa. State this one is from , I just saw it and thought a nive cheap project idea , not for me these days tho' , more's the pity .
There's no shortage of good used M-110 engines , they're very peppy if fairly thirsty .

Here's an interesting one ~ A gasser 6 cylinder in decent shape , the M-110 engine isn't running , as this same engine fits the W-123 & W-126 chassis , it shouldn't be the end of all to make into a Diesel rig . Flea-Bay item # 261085788817 So far no bids @ $100 . -Nate |
