[diesel_mercedes] Re: Radio wiring help.

Thank you Tom.  That Becker diagram showed my trigger wire for my antenna.  Lawrence Rhodes

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Here we go again....... Fuel Fungus

Seeing as  how I keep 20-25 spares in both cars, I prefer the "pop out, pop in" approach. Matter of fact, I was pleasantly surprised last week when I changed primaries and secondaries in both cars to discover I had everything in storage and did not have to buy anything.

Subject: [diesel_mercedes] Here we go again....... Fuel Fungus

I've been noticing sluggish off idle performance and yesterday afternoon as I was doing a routine hot oil & filter change I looked at my clear primary fuel filter and noticed the screen was dead black ~

Tapping it with a hard plastic screwdriver handle revealed tiny (and some no so tiny) chunks of coal looking stuff flaking off the screen so I remove it and capped both ends , shook and tapped the bejeebers out of it , this shakes the collected fungus residue break loose , once you see the fuel in it turning black , stop and hold it up right , in a few moments (about 60 seconds) the chunks will slowly settle and drift down into the inlet nipple , then you tap it a bunch more and more chinks will come loose , repeat until either you're tired & frustrated or the chunks stop falling off the screen , in the end I blew it out back wards then filled it up with Ether (starting fluid) , tapped it a few more times then blew it out again , not as clean as I'd like but I have a limited amount of ability with the pain and all .

Upon re - installation and re filling the sump with fresh multi grade oil , the engine started and idled smoother and has noticeably better off idle response and throttle response .

This is why I use and recommend the _clear_ primary intake fuel screen filters ~ you can _SEE_ what's going on at a glance & take action before you're suffering serious problems .

[diesel_mercedes] Re: Turbo Overhaul

Thanx for the links Rob ;

This has been rattling around in the back of my alleged brains since you posted it , as you know , I'm far too lazy & cheap so I like to fix things _once_ and as best as possible .

Looking at Ken's Mercedesource sales video makes me think in the long run I'm prolly better off doing this my own self : the upgraded thrust plate thing really makes sense and he says if you can replace an OM617 water pump , you can do this so I think I will , in the end even with buying the new impeller shaft , it'll be cheaper than an exchange turbo charger and who knows if the turbo rebuilder actually uses this up graded part plus a brandy new impeller on their rebuilt turbos ? you'll never know no matter what they say unless you take it apart .

Plus , I see Ken says to only take the front 1/2 of the turbo off the car , this makes it easier yet , all reasons to tackle this on a DIY Basis @ Home donch'a think ? .

I'll have to work it into my full schedule but I hope to corral Tom (my brother) and try this this Summer .

[diesel_mercedes] Becker Radio Connections & P/N's

Here ya go :

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/diesel_mercedes/photos/album/1540037031/pic/list

And a big tip of the pin to Tom for the Becker Radio Home Page , they have parts & service plus many different options to upgrade your old wonky Becker Grand Prix , Europa , Mexico etc.

Me , I just carefully clean up the originals and replace the speakers , they work better than most new $pendy radios do .

The Becker Home Page is here : http://www.beckerautosound.com/
