[diesel_mercedes] Re: Searching for a mechanic and biodiesel in North San Diego County

Thanks for the mechanic recommendation, Rob. As for biodiesel availability, I've just about given up. Guess it's time to go the WVO route, which might be a blessing in disguise, given the price of diesel at the pump.

The only retail biodiesel station I can find is the Pearson Fuels station on El Cajon Blvd in East San Diego County, about 40 miles to the south of my location. And they only sell B20. I want my B100! Or at least B99. It's ironic that in a place where the U.S. military uses lots of biodiesel, the consumer can hardly find a place to buy it.

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re : Bubba Repairs

Actually it WASN'T that damn switch!  With the usual two handed wiggling approach I got the window up and down...now with no help it goes up and down.

SO, Guess what???  Yea, you'll never guess...so this is the call Kevin got just moments after I dropped him off after lunch...

"Hey my car won't start and it's ON FREAKING FIRE!  SMOKE IS COMING OUT OF MY SPEAKERS AND DASH!!!"

I had a couple of bottles of water, he told me dump it on the dash.

It was the ground wire to the starter missing a bolt and shorting out!  Poor Kevin had to crawl under there in a parking lot to fix it.

I'm so ready to sell this car and start with a different MB!  I doubt I can get my money out of it sold as-is, but if I part it out I will..but then it'll be a few bucks here and there and could take forever to save up for the newer MB.  *sigh*

[diesel_mercedes] Re: manual transmission ???

Drain it then re fill to the level , that might help some .

240D's with good used manual gearboxes litter the scrapyards but I'll not be taking one out...

A rebuild might exceed the value of the whole car , I'd get a used one with a guaranty .

If it crunches into reverse when you're standing still with your foot on the brake , it needs a new clutch & pilot bearing too .

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Searching for a mechanic and biodiesel in North San Diego County

professormobesser,

Welcome to SoCal, though we're pretty lean on biodiesel. I doubt there's
any available in North County SD, and up here in Orange county it's not
much better. I need to find a new source of WVO...

A bit north for you, yet here's where I bring my car, if it's something
I'm not going to fix myself:

Dan's Auto (specializes in older MB's)
116 Industrial Way
Costa Mesa CA 92627
(949) 642-6770
