[diesel_mercedes] Re : Hand Me Downs

Yeah ;

Me too ! ( # 3 Son)

I got only used clothes but they were usually in good shape ~ they didn't thrash around like I did .

I seem to recall Mom buying a new Toyota Wagon about 1969 +/- , I was long gone by then , who knows what happened to it , I know she gave her 1967 VW Typ III Squareback to my Sister .

Down East is rough on cars ~ after 5 years you're lucky if it's still worth oil changes .

It should have a red overpressure switch on the receiver - dryer ,this is the silver tank thing behind the right headlight .

Unless you've replaced the compressor already , it's prolly just aging out .

If it locks up , unplug the compressor underneath and begin looking for deals on new compressor , expansion valve , receiver - dryer and some AC flushing agent too as the wole system will be full of metallic paste.

R-12 ~ buy it down there now .

Once you're home you can ge the rest of the parts drop shipped , remember some good AC oil , I forget the correct brand , it works with R-12 and R-134a both .

Pag Oil ? (maybe) .

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re : Teenager's First Vehicle

Nate,

I'm the 3rd son, so I got a hand-me-down old '69 toyota Corona as my 1st car, that was bought non running as a project car for my oldest brother. It became a whole family project, and each of us got it in turn. Much fun was had in that car. I was the one who finished it off by rolling it.

Hey, my exhaust donuts came in, and the embedded chain one's weren't too hard to install. I put 2 of those on the rear and the hard rubber ones in front of the muffler. When I looked up exhaust hangers on autohauz az, the embedded chain one's appeared as an option, along with the hard and soft rubber ones.

I'm a VW Mechnic and had a yard full of good VW's when my Son began to drive and he wanted a VW Beetle *very* badly ~ I decided to teach him and told him I'd help but he had to foot the _entire_ bill and he did . I found him the *exact* year , model and color combination he wanted then beat the price down , it was a very nice car indeed and he took far better care of it than most Teenagers do ~ in time he built it up into a Street Racer that was phenominal as it was still nice to drive daily , he was kinda a jerk about winning all the time though so some bad guys followed him and stole it . Oh well . Me ? I'da been happy with a bicycle if my Father had cared enough to give me one . -Nate Nate R. wrote :

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re : Topic Drift : Nash Metropolitan

FWIW, the originator of Jaguar originally bought chassies from Austin or Swallow to put their own sheet steel on them; it seems like there was a common practice to incorporate the parts from others car companies to create a different vehicle.

Yes George ;

They also made Drop Head Coupes (Convertibles) ~ I just sold mine as I'm a Closed Car kinda guy .

They made two experimentals with dual carbys and overdrive , they ran very well indeed on the Turnpikes , one still exists in Puerto Rico .

They also made two Station Wagons , One of those was saved and restored by the late Jimmy Valentine and resides in The Metropolitan Pit Stop's in house museum where I can drool over it and wish.... I think they'd have sold quite a few Wagons but the $ was always very tight @ AMC so they shelved it .

Metropolitans were made in Jolley Olde England by BMC , makers of MG and other good cars so the entire chassis is made up from off the shelf Sports Car parts ~ this means with little effort I was able to transform my little Ladies Grocery Getter into a fun , economical canyon carving Sports Coupe......

Folks are always amazed to see it go whizzing past them anywhere but in a straight line =8-) .
