Re: [diesel_mercedes] W-116 Fun

Nate,

Not sure if I'm the Ben you were wondering about, but either way, I'm definitely still here. In fact I spent a solid 8 hours in the shop today getting the good engine & gearbox installed into my pristine '82 240D.  That's a project that I've been meaning to get to for 18 months now.

Ice been on vacation since the Nissan plant is in it's summer shut-downright now. Before I could get my 82 240D into the shop, I had to complete the 5-speed conversion on my 1980 VW Dasher diesel wagon.  That's almost as sweet a ride as the manny tranny 240D's!

[diesel_mercedes] Fuel Prices

I have noticed a wild dichotomy between Diesel and RUG prices of late .

I went back to that same station to gas up my Metropolitan Nash FHSC and Diesel  is still $3.99 , RUG is $4.09 .

Re $3.99 / gallon - went back the next day to fill my car up, and there was yellow tape up everywhere and they were draining the tanks to rehab everything. Proving once again, don't procrastinate - strike while the iron is hot, etc, etc, etc.

[diesel_mercedes] Sway Bar Bushings

Your hyperlink is bad , can you please provide a working one ? .

TIA ,

I needed an upper ball joint and decided to replace both.  Good thing.

Both sides were this way, and the other ball joint was dry as a bone.  Just ready to fail.
I put in new sway bar bushings at the same time.  I wonder if anyone makes hard, performance bushings for these cars.  That would do a lot for handling over all these squishy ones.
I would say, if you are having camber problems, this control arm is your most likely suspect.

Very easy job.  More pictures here:

Shifter broke off right where it enters the rubber boot. Anyone have one lying around, or know of one for sale online? So far all I've seen is the entire shift assembly.
