[diesel_mercedes] Loping, Again, Naturally [1 Attachment]

2.1.17

This morning I noticed some fungus crud in the clear plastic intake screen so I removed it, blew it out then washed it with Ether, sparkly clean I re installed it then ran errands all day long, in the afternoon I picked up my new case of K100D  (photo) and put it in the trunk .

Around 5:30PM my Son and I were running another errand and twice when I re started the engine it stalled after a few seconds of rough idling so af Supper I decided to read the label and dump one entire quart bottle into the nearly empty tank , 25 miles later the loping at idle was pronounced even in neutral so I popped the hood and Lo ! the clear intake screen had crud in it again, proving that close to empty tank is when the most debris / dirt / fungus / Leprechauns will get sucked into the engine *:( sad .

I quickly removed, blew clean and flushed it yet again, it looks like to - morrowI'll have to fill it up again, I'm hoping to run it dry, I have two gallons of nice clean Bio-Diesel in the trunk .

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Springs

OOPS ! .

I never drink when I'm driving ~ too many people I know died that way when I was younger .

I've been thinking about this and I bet all it needs is new rear coils and a nice pair of Bilsetein HD shocks .

      Al asked :

Please clarify your statement.  Was it you or the car that was loaded to the gills, or both?

Monroe used to sell coil over shocks, those worked very well but lost their damping ability some what after 40,000 miles or 6 years....

Or , look up the coil spring P/N for a TD (Wagon) and fit those .

I vaguely remember one fellow here saying he fitted W116 (early 300SD) rear springs to his W123 Sedan to increase load carrying .

Or, maybe Tom @ he M-B Classic Center can order you in some rear springs for a 240DL, this being the Taxi version not sold in North America.....

Plenty of ways to go here, I'm betting a pair of Junk yard 300D springs are going to be slightly stiffer .

Me, I like a really firm ride but them I drive my old Mercedes' hellbent for leather most of the time, often loaded to the gills .

Any of you guys ever do anything in the way of increasing the springs.

We mainly use it (82 240d) to go to town once a month. hour drive And I
don't like drag-assing back with a full load.

If it was a Ford I'd just go in the catalog and get something a little
heavier and a little taller (maybe), but I don't have access to that
kind of data.

Napa seems to be pretty useless with mercedes.

Any ideas or info appreciated.

Fred
