Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: Air Locks or What?

These are replacement rubber seals running about $40-$50 each. They basically fit into a lipped groove in the door. Next time I would either use soapy water, or talcum powder, to ease them into the groove. Although they don't need a sealant, I did tack them down in places where they did not seat as well as I would like.  As with any repair procedure, you will always do it better the second time around.

Did you install the foam kind or the flexible rubber ones? Do they glue in, or how do you install them?

[diesel_mercedes] Re: New Car Replacement Parts

A friend of mine works for a large auto parts chain. He works on a team with seven other people who forecast parts purchases for the company. They keep track of how many of which cars are sold, how long they expect the individual components to last, and then extrapolate their market share of spare parts sales from that.

And they floated in water (at least long enough for you to push it to shore).

Yep ;

Of course all the Geezers here remember them ~ that good sealing meant the original 36HP engine's tiny " stale air " heaters worked great , even in New England .

Once that seal was gone , they became drafty & cold .

No , they don't .

Coupes with frameless windows are very tricky to adjust the window's full up position .

Both my '78 & my '79 Coupes gave me fits after I repaired all the DPO bodges in the doors .

Trial and error is what it took me but I presevered and they closed *perfectly* and neither leaked nor whistled @ speed .

Have *fun* Chip .

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Air Locks or What?

I don't have this problem in my 240D because I have old door seals.  One wonders if it makes any difference if the center ventilation slider control, the one that lets outside air come through the center dash vents, is open.
