[diesel_mercedes] Fun In The Sun

O.K. , Tom and I went off to the Milliken , Ontario , Ca. Pick-A-Part where there were two 240D's and one lonely '83 300D in Tomato red that was really nice , I found rolling papers in it and roach burns all over the seats so I guess some stupid assed stoner jerkwad got it and ran it into the ground or got it impounded ~ this car was so clean and shiny , I could have sold it for $2,500 NOT RUNNING in about 5 minutes......

Sigh .

Of course it had been there a few days and so was heavily cherry picked , it turns out I need yet another engine oil pan for my beloved '84 Diesel Sports Coupe and this nice old Sedan had a brandy new one on it , still had the parts label on it .

When I removed it the inside of the engine *sparkled* ~ no sludge nor accumulated ash anywhere ~ seems a real shame , I bet no one will take that $250 engine with recently rebuilt injection pump .

I was able to harvest a new driver's side door check for my European Wagon , several really nice & tight inside door release handles and other small bits & bobs , lots of " problem solver " hardware .

Tom found a box of crappy Chinese tools lying in the dirt and in the bottom of it were some never used Mercedes toolkit reversible screwdrivers ~ wow , I'm always looking for those , I still don't quite have three complete tool kits for my three Mercedes' .

I was going to mention something else but I've forgotten what now .

C.R.S. strikes yet again .

[diesel_mercedes] Manual Tranny Oil

That sounds about right to me Max .

Older British cars also like thinnish Engine oil due to the tiny little roller bearings they use .

I had one that didn't shift well in spite of a very good clutch , I drained the tranny and filled it with synthetic engine oil and it shifted as new again .

If your drain plug is weeping , it prolly needs a new copper gasket ~ Hardware Store should have them .

Anyone have a manual Mercedes? What do you put in the transmission? I always used ATF but I finally read my owners manual. Here's what it says to use, engine oil SAE 10 W/20-20. Of course no one in my town has ever heard of this weight oil. I bought 2 quarts of Mobil 1 5W-20 thinking this will be fine. Any input? max

[diesel_mercedes] Neighbors

Well Max ;

This is _America_ so I believe I have a right to go where I please....

Watts is on the other side of the I-110 Harbor Freeway from me , I don't go to Watts very often .

Some of the Black guys @ work know where I live and say they're scared of this neighborhood (Washington High School is two blocks away)  but it really looks nice and is mostly quiet.....

I remember the ? '92 ? riots ~ I was dating a Jamaican lady and we went to the beach , all the White folks took off running when we got out of my car .

Life is really strange sometimes .

South Central includes Watts, right? Hell of a neighborhood. Your are pretty brave to even be there.  I remember seeing the fires from the riots back in the 60's coming back from a Dodger game. Max

I'm guessing they take no responsibility for this? No insurance? No cops?

maybe a security cam, so you can catch them and prove it, in the future?
