[diesel_mercedes] Fuel Economy Check '82 240D Auto

Mostly SWMBO driving so not sure if AC used or not , I did to - day and ran it a good 30 + minutes after the low fuel light came on  .

3oz Diesel Kleen Cetane Boost added per tankfull .

24.6 MPG .

Still chugs right along but it's true , the 240's are slow , I don't care .

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Ticking sound

Do these engines have a centrifugal advance mechanism? My old 59 190D had one, it rattled a hell of a lot and a Mercedes mechanic told me not to worry about it after I had bought a new one. Nate and I had this conversion a few years ago when the subject came up.If anybody needs one I might be able to find it after 35 years in the shop. Max

It certainly sound like an engine sound, but I suppose it could be transmitted through the engine.

Hi,
I recently did a purge along with the valve adjustment.

I am not able to isolate it with a listening device as the sound is most prevalent when the engine is under load. Sitting in the shop with no load it is not really making any strange noise. When I rev it up, it is barely noticeable and I'm not able to tell where it is coming from.

The noise does seem to be louder when the engine is cold.

Thanks for the comments so far!

Kevin

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: Martha Gets Fixed

I don't understand why you would neuter (FIX) Martha. Did she have
anything to say about it? There is a shortage of offspring from this
fine bloodline. We should neuter many other vehicles to stop their
population, not Martha!

WHY, WHY, WHY

Wow, lost a lot of weight last week. About $993 worth. But, my wife now has great brakes and a great soft ride with new shocks. Still some leaks to fix and minor things, and later in the fall we will tackle her struts, control arms, ball joints, etc.  But, for 300,000 miles she does not burn oil, or drip oil, or lose oil - I am impressed.
