Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: Coolant running out of 116

Tom,

You might talk to the boss lady and see if she is willing to forgo the heater.  I bypassed the one in my pickup about 6 years ago.  Sometimes i regret it, but mainly it has not been a problem.  South of Tuscon, you should have even less need for the heater.

It is easier on the MB, than my pickup, but still a real pain to remove and replace the heater core.

If you decide to leave the bypass in place, it might be a good idea to clean the cooling system.  But it will not fix the heater.

Subject to update by Nate.

Good luck,
Bobby

I did a by pass today. No leaks. Will drive to town tomorrow and see. With coolant running out like it was, do you think that cleaning the system will work or do I need to tear the dash out to get to the heater core (which I will need to find instructions on how to)? We only reached mid 90's here today (south of Tucson). If it gets any colder people will be breaking out their sweaters. (LOL). Thanks for the input. Tom.

Heater core ("Matrrix") is KAPUTI .

You'd best by pass it for now and get ready to do some serious citric acid cleaning before the EVIL SERVO FROM HELL dies and pukes all the coolant while she's driving and ruins the engine .

Found that the water was coming out of what appears to be an overflow tube on the passenger side of the firewall. This tube is 1-2 inches wide and outlet is made to remain closed but will allow fluid to come out if needed. Don't know how water could get from a closed system into this "overflow" tube. My Haynes book does not show anything and I could not find any pictures/diagrams on the internet. Any suggestion or advice on how this works or how to fix this problem would be appreciated. Thanks Tom.

[diesel_mercedes] Basic Injector Testing

Yes and no Max ~

Non turbo engines spec. out @ 115 BAR , turbo equipped ones @ 135 .

They'll interchange and I've talked to a few guys who put turbo injectors into a NA engine , I'd think this would make them run too lean and yes , running a Diesel engine too lean is a good way to burn the pistons crown to junk .

I wonder if 300 or 300 turbo injectors are the same as 240's. I have 10 of those I could mess around with. I have a pop tester too. Haven't used  it for 20 years. Max

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Coolant running out of 116

The other day I went to town and it was 101 degrees when I left at about 2;00pm. My AC is still blowing cold with 2- 6oz cans OF hc12A, but it was so hot I went to Walmart and bought a 12V car fan. I clipped it to the hand grab on the passenger side  and had it blow right on my head, nice. Works good. It has cooled down here and I have driven with the AC off and just the 12v fan on and its nice. Blows a lot of air. Keep cool, Max

Well if that's the deal, then not overflow tank or hose , have to be heater or hose running to heater. Max

I understood the coolant was coming from the drain on the firewall.  The one that often gets clogged with leaves, causing water to fill the front passenger floor.

Not a good description but it sounds like it could just be the hose to the overflo tank.? If it is it could mean the radiator needs flushing or replaced?  How about a picture? Max

From what you're describing, it sounds like coolant is coming out of where the a/c condensation drains out.  That would indicate a possible leaking heater core, or, more likely, a short hose that connects the heater core(s) in the passenger compartment to the cooling system under the hood.

You can get a better idea of what goes on in there from the factory service manual at the W116.org site:
