I did like Brian said and threw away the plastic tops and bolted a foreign coin onto each side of the top of the key (the top of the key has a hole in it already - use that). That left a gap between the two coins which I filled in with silicone glue. I drilled a large hole through the other side of the coins to put it onto my key ring. You have to pay attention to the way you put it together so it will fit into the ignition switch once you have it all put together. Mount the key so the shoulders of the key are just sticking out a bit from the edge of the coin. You could use washers or anything about the size of a US quarter. I used lock-tite or equivalent on the bolt and nut that I used to hold it together, and then cut the extra bolt off and filed the whole thing down smooth. I have done four keys that way. Works great.

[diesel_mercedes] Chattering relay in climate control pushbutton W123
Does anyone know what would cause a relay to sound like jiffy pop inside a W123 climate control pushbutton box? If I put it on full high or low it doesn't chatter but when the temp wheel is close to the ambient cabin temp, it chatters like crazy.

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Minor Miscellaneous Tasks
Andrew,
Thanks for the tip. I think I dealt with all the worn rubber bits in the
tranny line clamps, when I replaced the tranny, though it's worth
another peek. I haven't cleaned the engine off to see new leaks, though
there's a lot of build up at the oil filter canister, so maybe one of
the oil cooler lines needs to be tightened or something.

I removed the pipe and silver soldered a copper sleeve over the split. I had to remove the engine shockers bracket to wiggle the transmission cooling pipe out. I made up new clips and bushed them with strips of 2mm insertion rubber.
