[diesel_mercedes] note from new member

I just found this site, thanks to Nate.
I am in Corvallis, Oregon. I have my grandfather's 1961 190Db. I am rebuilding the wheel cylinders and replacing the brake shoes as the original friction material is unbonding itself from the shoes.
I am mostly working on my own vehicles now as I am 70; in addition to the Mercedes I have a 1937 1.5-ton Chevy flatbed truck and have assembled a 1923 Harley Davidson JD from parts.
My 'spare time' is taken volunteering at a Habitat For Humanity Restore.

-=0=- Sludge Crud Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: crud, alge , smudge filters/separato

Maybe the best thing about a diesel generator is the fact the the tank is not being drivin around and keep mixing up all the crud and dirt and water constantly. Water is not a problem at all with this system because water and diesel do not mix, I have a giant filter/separator with a see tru bowl with a drain. I did find papers that came with my 4-spd that showed the PO had a problem with water in the fuel , had the car towed and had a very large filter/separator installed that probably holds a pint or more of water. It is installed before the other two filters. Great idea. Extra filter and water separator. I know for a fact in the bottom of my big 300 gallon tank there is a lot of gunk. Whenever I pump new fuel I try and not run it for a while to let it settle. NOt so in cars or anything that gets driven. Tomorrow I am gonna get help to put A battery in my 240 auto and drive it at least to the mail box. Chase the mice out of the car and run it a little. Anyone got anything to trade?. max
