Re: [diesel_mercedes] Don't Be Afraid To Try

Nate,

Congrats, so you repaired your bathroom, does that mean you'll let
guests use it?
or are they still relegated to the bushes? :) (sorry, I couldn't help
myself)

It's nice when something gets fixed. Enjoy your new toilet.

Today, I dragged my wife off to the local PAP, since she re-decorated
the front of her 240 Volvo, and we were able to get 2 new headlights
(nice and clear ones), a grill and a piece of trim for her.

There were no MB 123s at the Beach Blvd PAP, yet at the Katella PAP
there was one MB 240D (123), so I grabbed the passenger seat, just to
take the springs, and replace my broken ones. I might go back tomorrow,
and get fenders and a hood for the Volvo, as it's all 1/2 off this
weekend. I don't want to replace those anytime soon, yet they'll be nice
to have on hand when I do.

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: Don't Be Afraid To Try

Karen is unavailable but her brother may come around for the right fee.

FWIW, most carpentry mistakes can be reversed

The first MB diesel i owned, I was given and accepted reluctantly; I was afraid of large dealership repair costs and was unfamiliar with anything other than a NA engine without computer controls.  The PO of my 300SD told me that the car wouldn't shut off and that he was told by the dealership not to fix it himself or he'd destroy the motor, or some other fate worse than death ....he believed them....he was afraid to try.

I fixed it by trial and error.

Feel free to to delete the proctological part of this report, in part or in its entirety.

The lesson here is : go ahead and try a new thing , the worse you can do is screw it up beyond all reason and have to call in the Carpenters.

Or in my case, Dad or the shop.  I enjoy working on cars, full size and radio-controlled (RC).  I had a friend of my sister's helping me work on my first hobby grade RC car many years ago.  He said he would work on it if it needed fixing.  My blindness made this quite a challenge at first, both driving it and repairing it as well.  After the 3rd accident, he didn't seem to have time to fix the car, and since I wanted to keep driving it, I either had to take it into the hobby shop or buy the parts and fix it myself.  I took it in, had the shop determine the parts I needed and give me some basic instructions to do the repairs .  I figured that I couldn't screw it up much more than it was already, so I got the tools and went for it!  Within an hour, I had it back on the road again.  That was 23+ years ago, and I've had over a hundred different RC cars, trucks, boats and a few helicopters and airplanes since then.  Later that week when the friend came over, I happened to be out with the car.  As I heard  his car coming down the street and waited for it to pass, I gunned the throttle and raced up behind him as he pulled into our driveway.  After he expressed his amazement with its speed, I exclaimed, "AND I FIXED IT MYSELF, INCLUDING THE MODIFIED MOTOR!!!!"

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Don't Be Afraid To Try

Hey Nate I'm still reading and looking for a good MB.  I might have a buyer for my pos car. He was supposed to be here at 10am, but given he had to drive 1 1/2 hrs I understand him not being here on time.

Sadly as I made Kevin drive past a really nice MB at camp yesterday, he exclaimed "you just need to get off of this MB thing, as far as I'm concerned their a poc" :(  Sadly I did buy the wrong car and it went downhill from there.  Really for what he put into this stupid Nissan he insisted we buy a few weeks ago, I could have my MB up and running. We paid $1200 then he spent 12 hrs and another $200 replacing tie rods, et al then another $70 on used tires just so I could get it aligned for another $25, which wasn't done right so he's got to take it back, an hour drive.  On top of all of that crap, the stupid fuel return line leaks so we lost 1/4 tank of gas 2x! Then the gauge said 1/4 tank, but noooo I ran out in my damn driveway, he had to drive all the way home 100 miles round trip to put 5 gallons in my tank in the pouring rain.  So I can't fill it up to be safe, I can't let it get down to 1/4 tank to be safe.  Arrrrgh.  But I've kept my marriage intact which to me is pretty important.  Yeah, I chew my lip, but in the end it's just a stupid car or cars and eventually I WILL have a nice car that is dependable that he nor I will have to work on other than the usual fluid check ups, etc.

Hope everyone is having a good Labor Day weekend.  I'm starting a new job today, oh boy, night (2pm to 9pm) shift mgr at a local bbq joint. A place I don't even eat because the last 2x I ate there I had a horrid stomach ache, and there is nothing there that I eat, bleh. But it's only 7 miles from home, and since I don't have to be there till 2pm and weekends are mandatory, which means I'll have 2 days off during the week, I have plenty of time to job hunt/interview during the day for a "real" job, which will come.
