Well I found out I have a unibody.  It is $5000.00 to restore.

I bet those cheap California cars are lookin real good to you now.  Been through this.  It is sooooooooo much easier to buy a California car and use your rust bucket as a parts car.  Lawrence Rhodes....Nothing on my 300TD but surface rust.

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Battery Life

All batteries are "worry free". When it dies, get a new one. No more worries.

Stan ;

Back in the 1970's I used to easily get 10 + years out of batteries , I always bought them by wight as the heaviest one will always be the best one , of course using the correct hold downs and making sure your charging system works properly helps as does proper tune so the engine starts rapidly if not instantly .

It's always Dollars ahead to maintain you vehicles, ever notice how some folks never need a new starter , water pump or radiator ? .

 Bought my 83 240D in 1999 and still have the battery in it that was in
it when I bought it. That means it is at least 15 years old and still
cranking. Whoops! Probably shouldn't have bragged.

Great job.

The foil alone improved the amount of light that got to the cluster. But the LEDs made it even better. I have uploaded some pics of the project as I was doing it to the same folder that has the LED pics. (bogy's LED intrument cluster lights) There is a bit of descriptive text in each pic. Enjoy! I know I will

That is the genius of the unibody, it will save your life as it crumples in a predefined engineered way. It is also a curse as the integrity of the unibody design needs to be preserved so it is structurally sound, which means the steel needs to be pristine. Course, if you never hit anything, and nothing ever hits you, I suppose you can get by with a rusted out shell.
