[Diesel-RVs] Re: oders

What probably happened was the P-trap dried out because of lack of use
of the washer. This allowed tank odors to come back up. Just pour a
little water down int every once in awhile or use the washer. Many
people have odors coming up through the toilet because the overflow
drains dry out. Just fill up the toilet and let the water go down the
overflow tubes if the toilet has overflow tubes available. They act
like the P-trap.

RE: [Diesel-RVs] Re: Rid-X

Hey everybody,

I just put the long nozzle of my power washer down the throat

of my toilet and pull the trigger. Needless to say you have to do it

with an open valve. Turn the nozzle 360 deg to make sure you get

everything. That WILL clean your tank! I do it once a year.

Jim,
Save your money. Pull the washer drain hose out of the pipe and duck tape the pipe closed. You might want to unplug the AC cord to the washer so the DW doesn't use it by mistake. Chuck B

Re: [Diesel-RVs] Re: Rid-X

I full time and use nothing but water. A couple of years ago a friend
attended an FMCA rally in Pomona and met a vendor who used a high pressure
hose and video camera borascope to clean RV holding tanks. To make a long
story short he cleaned my buddy's tanks for $200 (rally special price) and
told him what he thought of RV chemicals. In a nutshell he said that most
work as advertised and break down various solids. These solids are reduced
to a paste like substance that sticks to the walls and especially the bottom
of the tanks. The problems he said is insufficient water. His recommendation
was to never dump a tank that was less than 2/3 full and whenever possible
re-fill with fresh and dump again. According to him only the scouring action
of water will keep the tanks clean. The more water the cleaner the tank. It
has been several years now since I've used any chemicals and so far so good.
I especially appreciate not having to pay good money for something and then
throw it down a toilet. VBG

Re: [Diesel-RVs] Anyone See the Luxe TV program

At 10 miles to the gallon, every 1000 miles takes 100 gallons (I
actually get 9-9.5 mpg).
I drive about 10,000 miles a year maximum in the motorhome.
That means at today's cost my fuel cost's me $3600.00 a year.
If fuel went up 2 bucks a gallon it would cost me $5600 a year.

I can find another 170.00 a month, or I can drive less. Every 1000 miles
less I drive would save me 360.00

My monthly payment, storage fees and insurance come to 900 a month. My
depreciation is probably double that. My upgrades and maintenance are
probably = 200.00 a month or more.

Even with a 2 dollar increase in fuel, its the cheapest expense I have.

In FL we have plenty of local campgrounds to visit to save money and
still enjoy the RV.

Re: [Diesel-RVs] Re: Rid-X

Hi Russ
DJ just made several cases to use Rid-X to keep the smell dpwn. Chuck B

northstatebiker <djohnsonhot@yahoo.com> wrote:
Fred is on to something there, Russ.....I also have an unused trap for
a washer/dryer set up but we never installed the machines...it dried
up and stunk like crazy.

Another thing: those plastic traps under our sinks can be fragile
and if you bang something into one of those, it can develop a very
small crack which will allow gas to escape.

One other possibility: your vent cap on the roof (actually two of
them at least) may have some junk that is not allowing the vent to gas
off and this could cause a terrible stink.

When I first bought my rig new, the trap under the sink in the batch
was cross-threaded and leaked.....I replaced it. The RV factories
are always in a big hurry (esp high-vol mfg.) and they make these kind
of mistakes.
