Re: [diesel_mercedes] Selling my '81 240D

That is the factory color - Golden Brown.  It's kind of a carmel color.

It's a great car, but the cost of shipping it across the country would probably be prohibitive.

Mary came from Palm Springs and I will vouch for the dry desert weather. No rust in that part of the world.

Much as I hate to do it, it's time to part with my '81 240D w/manual transmisssion.  It's on Craigslist, at this address:  http://palmsprings.craigslist.org/cto/2998580134.html

The car is in Palm Springs, California, which is about 100 miles east of Los Angeles.

It's in great shape and in need of a new loving home.  I've put over $6000 in it in the last almost two years, so it'll give you great service for a long time.  Please contact me off-list at brianbarn@yahoo.com if you have questions.

[diesel_mercedes] Treasures in the trunk

Things have been thin here lately - so, in addition to oil & filter changes, coolant change, and fuel filter changes, I decided to pop my trunks and explore what nuggets were in 2 of 6 containers. These were storage containers for "medium" size things as opposed to my container for small thingies, and 3 containers of big thingies.

I was happy to discover lots and lots of tubing and hoses, probably enough to outfit an entire car. So, I replaced some vacuum lines and some clamps. Tomorrow, or Monday, we will look at muffler donuts and fuse boxes, and maybe a diesel purge on Mary.

But, I got to inventory this stuff on a spreadsheet. I keep forgetting what treasures I have buried in my boxes. And every PAP visit tends to produce more and more and more and more.

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: Bought the wrenches.

I had two homemade wrenches for valve adjustment made by bending (under acetylene torch heat) them.  Used them for my 1979 300d.
Turned the crank with homeade cable and switch to the starter.

Now many years later I have a 1984 300SD (125000 miles only...for now!) and must have misplaced the good old bent wrenches (as well as the cable switch) and need soon to make some new ones from long flat wrenches which I have.

Forgot exactly the bending angles but may figure it out from the pictures of some I see on the web.

Will let you know how I do it again when the time comes.

Have fun, JC
