This group provides a forum for owners and operators of diesel powered motorhomes and 5th wheel tractors to discuss mechanical issues, regulatory issues (US, Canada), ownership, insurance, campground accommodations, trip reports/suggestions, and other topics relevant to large RVs and the people who drive them.

Always sad to hear when one of our old beast MBs gets ruined. I'm assuming your brother is OK.

Sad news ~ my big brother called me this afternoon, he got T-boned by a woman in a Nissan Rouge (some sort of SUV or crossover thing) when she ran a red light at speed, hitting his 4,000 + 1987 Mercedes 300SLD hard enough to spin it in a circle, it's done for, look at the photos ~ not only is the right rear door and lower body mangled but the upper part of the 'C' pillar now has a shallow dent in it, not from direct impact, from the body being twisted . the right front door is also sprung and out of alignment with the body .
He loves this car in spite of refusing to ever wash it , maybe we'll be able to find another one that needs a good engine....
He's now driving my Coupe, I hope he doesn't get hit in it .

Hi friends! I am a returning list member. I left about 7-8 yrs ago…sorry!
For the last 20 yrs I have been rebuilding a number of mercedes W114, W123 and W190…all diesel.
I am currently focussed on rebuilding my R107.
I am planning to make a big move to another country 4 yrs from now. I have 3 storages with cars and parts that I need to sell.
Parts include new parts or good used parts from a total of 7 W123 I had (4 I bought only for parts).
I bought the old rims with the hubs for all of my cars.
I need to sell my W114 76 and my 2 W123 sedan (83 and 82). I just don't have the time to continue those projects.
I planned to sell on eBay but it might take too much time! Ideally I would prefer to sell everything (car and parts) in one single batch but it might be a bit more difficult that way.
The W114 is a 76 sedan with a completely rebuilt engine - installed but never used. It is absolutely complete and in good shape.
it has a 2nd gas aluminium tank. I have a pair of euro bumpers to install on it and some nice but used vertical headlights (latest version).
The brakes are brand new (calipers and disks). New shocks…and a Bosh ignition system that uses the newest glow plugs.
I replaced the original bundt rims with the old style rims with the hubs. Brand new Michelin tires installed - never used.
I have numerous spares parts - including a new A/C compresor and radiator.
What's needed to make it run…
1. replace the aluminium tuning to the rear brake (original were stuck - I had to break them). I have new straight tubes.
2. install the throttle assembly in the engine bay.
3. install the new ignition bosh system
4. install the new radiator
5. install the headlights
4. fill her up and try
I might have spent over $6,000 in engine rebuilt and parts.
I would like to get $3,750 for it…I was going to post on CraigList and Facebook Market Place but I thought I should check with the list first.
Let me know. We will need to conduct the transaction outside of the list.
I will sell my 2 W123 as well. I will describe them later - there is a lot more parts (new compresor, axles, brakes, radiators, etc…).
I received a lot of help from this list … I was able to contribute and would like to reconnect as I am now starting on my R107.

I had the same problem with both of mine - I managed to stop the leaks on the daily driver but the rust continued in the trunk despite shade tree mechanic level rattle can attempts to remediate.
I still have a back glass (some minor whitening in left/right lower corners) and the seal for it if that's of any help - alas I no longer have either car.
Hello Nate,
Sorry about my spelling this morning I was trying to do it with the speech recognition and that didnt work out too well.
The passenger side is the worst.
I was hoping to find a doner body and use Mr.Sazall
I have seen the different layers and have started to make it but the curve down towards the trunk is impossible for me to get right. Its brazed together right there also.

? Which side is it on ? .
I'm curious as my '84 300CD has this too and it's spreading .
You need to find a competent body shop to address this, there's several layers of double wall construction under neath the window opening making it tricky to properly repair .

Hello all,
My 300CD has rust along the rear window sill. It was biding under the rubber gasket for the glass around the bottom corners.Looks to be a out 3 layers of steel in that area. It's only rusty around the glass lip area, holes about 3/4 inch and the rubber support lip is damaged.
The SD has a different body design correct? I was thinking maybe a doner car to cut out a 12 inch section from that area. I believe the CD body style is different in that area between the rear window and the trunk correct? Any ideas here for me.
Thanks,P
