[diesel_mercedes] Olden Dayze

I remember a neighbor having an Isetta in 1960 or so, I thought it the coolest car ever, they of course were embarrassed to be driving such a tin can.....

My very first VW came to me with a bad battery, I had to push start it everywhere I went, not a happy time for my girlfriend.....

For a while I lived down a 30' driveway and had to park carefully every night, making sure it was facing the street, I'd grab the front bumper and pull it up to the side walk (1960 VW Beetle, didn't weigh anything and had rock hard Bias Ply tires, easy to roll and skid) , let it coast into the street and bang the clutch out in second gear, putter off to High School......

No driver's license, no tags on the car, big gaping holes in the large canvas sliding 'sunshine roof' etc.  ~ I was 14 years old and thought I was being a Man, working in a garage, paying rent on my own apartment, going to high school and having a live in girlfriend .

Sheesh .

? How did you like the Isetta ? .

[diesel_mercedes] Rolling Resistance

You're not kidding Brian ! .

It was ever so slightly up hill and I had to stop pushing to turn the steering wheel to manoever it between the two lines of curb parked cars to get it into the alley, I'd hoped I could get a little bit of momentum going as it turned off the crown of the street, I was lucky to not have blocked the alley (some Women were short cutting after picking up their little darlings at the public school at the far end of the alley and kept me on my toes not to get hit) .

FWIW, I run radial tires, I guess everyone does these dayze but I also am *very* picky about the inflation pressures, for my load and driving I get the best traction @ 40 PSI cold, that helps when pushing.....

[diesel_mercedes] Window Dead 300TD

Oh, boy ~ the left rear window has occasionally refused to go up so I rarely roll it down, thinking sooner or later I'll repair or replace the usual dirty, poor contact switch .

To - day it stayed down and even after I removed the switch and tried to by pass it with an un belt paper clip, it refuses to budge so I parked it behind the gate and will drive it home to - morrow and take the door apart and see if I have a spare electric motor for it or what.....

I filled the tank to day and got 23 MPG, about usual .
