I set the timing on a lot of different vehicles. I'd never done a diesel before I did this one. Setting it was really no harder to do than a gas engine. I had a Citroen D that had to be stationary timed. Pretty much the same thing. I also timed my Isetta with stationary timing. It is not that critical.

I got mine, N.O.S. for $150 by waiting .

A few years ago they were close to $1,000, not nearly as many of us still driving old OM616/617 engines these days .

Now, I need the adjusting tool : it's two blocks of metal connected by a turn buckle ~ one block is "U" shaped and slips snugly over the front squared off part of the I.P., the other part attaches to the cylinder head, the idea is to more firmly hold the I.P. from being bumped after you've adjusting it so both A & Blights are lit, whist you snug up the three I.P. holding nuts .


One word. Overkill.
