Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: Off topic Boston area near M.I.T.

Usually a group of students will rent an apartment (3-4 BR) in a triple decker and split expenses.

Re: [diesel_mercedes] 300sdl relay images

From hard experience I'd agree with Alan, but then I hate electrical problems. Also there are probably a multitude more issues with the vehicle than are readily apparent that you will only become aware of as you start one or another project...ie one thing leads to another. All this is not to be overly negative because it's all OK if you enjoy working on the car, have a realistic anticipation of its issues and get it for the right price.

The old saying that there is nothing more expensive than a cheap Mercedes still holds.  The only way I'd consider the car would be if there is little or no rust  and the interior was very good.  Used parts are available , but you would probably be wise to invest in the Mercedes Benz Model 126 Service Manual Library CD if you buy the car.  The part number on mine is P-2700-126-099.  The dealers may be able to order them, if not try the MB classic Center.  I don't remember if you mentioned the mileage but obviously, the lower the better.  In any event if you decide to do it I'd offer him 1/2  what he's asking because from the sound of things  you will be facing some major time in sorting out the electrics.

TCC,

Keep the address.  Adam isn't going anywhere.

If your son is looking in 2012, I think that we'll have a 3 or 4 bedroom unit available in Coolidge Corner for around $2,500 / mo.  That's space for at least 4 students to share, and a whole lot better than $1,750 for a studio.  It's also walking distance to the green line subway.  When I was living in Boston, I used to walk from that unit to Fenway Park, when I was working on the Redsox broadcasts.

[diesel_mercedes] Re: '83 300D Suspension noise. with video. Sounds like mine did.

I did not have the noise when turning the wheel (yet), but had the up and down. The lower ball joint on the passengers side was dead, boot ripped and dry/rusty inside.

I bought the balljoint and brought it and the car to the shop told them what to do and if confimed to replace the joint.

That was it all else looked good, I kept my fingers crossed they where not setting me up for a lot of front end re-work at inspection time 3 weeks later. It did end up passing inspection.

all these relays are gone from car. i think this does not bode well for owner. cat got folks tongue?  seem AC won't work w/o them. He says it does. either someone yanked those relays, and he is absolutely clueless, or he's a lying sack-o-manure~
not trying to be a pot calling the kettle black...

still wondering what sockets were missing on the firewall.

I don't think you have it quite right - he's probably a clueless lying sack of manure.
