[diesel_mercedes] Traffic Jam & Caliper Service

I have a 64 oz. insulated jug I take on road trips, I ran it dry .

We'd just finished lunch at the Pilot Truck Stop's Iron Skillet restaurant (salad bar, fiber ya know ) and were getting on the freeway when the collision occurred .

Had I been driving I'da gone around but Tom is more careful so we waited

And waited

And waited

Whilst fore trucks, ambulances, USFD crew vans and so on all passed us on the shoulder .

In time I convinced him and his overfilled bladder to drive up the shoulder to the next exit (Lebec) where Cal Trans had the off ramp blocked for no good reason, the various gas stations etc. were all empty and very glad to have us there buying ice and things to drink .

Tom got some photos of the Dorade bombers and burning hillsides .

I discovered that auto travel is very pain full for me right now .

I plan to stay home to - day (Sunday) and rest up plus do my PT exercises as I go back to Kaiser Tuesday .

Calipers are tricky ~ sometimes easy, others a serious PIA .

The I5 at Grapevine Road, (southbound) had a huge accident on Thursday, it happened about 2:30.

Collision with two big rigs, oil spilled from a tanker truck, caused a grass fire, haz mat response, etc.  I was on 99 south,

near McFarland.  Heard about the wreck on the local news.  Traffic was backed up

to Bakersfield.  It was about 105 degrees at 3:30PM.  Turned around and went

over on Friday morning.  Got stuck in a winter storm near Gorman a few years back.  One extreme

to the other.

BTW, I tried rebuilding my brake calipers on my 220.  They were a mess.  Got rebuilds

from NAPA, pleased with the results.  Also sourced hoses, - Semperit brand in NAPA  boxes.
