Re: [diesel_mercedes] Crud In I.P.

You're right on my wavelength here .

The circular piece of the elements is very snug fitting , I bought a small telescopic magnet to try and help fish them  out the next time I'm in where .

The last time I took # 1 injector pipe off , I used starting fluid to try and blow the crud out , I know there's more underneath the piece I can yet get out .

Right now I still have the Wagon's doors apart and am also working on Tom's old 1979 Dodge D-200 crew cab truck...

No rest for the weary , right ? =8-) .

Yup, your mention of the IP crud made me think a piece may have made it to the mated surfaces in the tip. Then I'm thinking, how to flush the crud from the IP? Did you get to "feel" a piece of the crud? Hard or soft? My guess is the car sat and settled "fine particles" from older diesel fuel. Now it's flaking loose. I have not done this, but I wonder if the delivery valves on the IP were pulled, could a solvent be manually pumped through to flush it?

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Routine Valve Adjustment

Well, I did  4 and 12, aint going back to redo. I realized its been a loooooooooooooooooong time and several hip surgeries since I adjusted valves. I had 5 a bit tight, 2 a bit loose and one good.  But with a .004 it aint much difference between not right and right. Gee whiz, I am glad these engines dont have 4 valves per cylinder. Max

[diesel_mercedes] bash plate, skid plate, projection ...

That's only one half of it but a good thing to have IMO ~ the Wagon is fine but I keep ruining OM616 oil pans on my Coupe and never even notice when I scrape it....

I got home last night and crawled underneath with my flashlight to see how it looks after the cleaning , there's still lots of built up grease and crud in places I couldn't reach but it's a world better looking so I re installed the accessory engine bash plate , installed the wheels . fired it up and took it for a test drive to the car wash .

It stops on a dime again but feels ' funny ' ~ like maybe there's a vacuum leak or the booster is failing ~ if I pump the brakes several times the pedal comes up very high and rock hard but ZERO BOOST .

Allowing a few moments returns the boost , why I think there's a vacuum leak plus , the three and four way connectors don't grip the plastic pipes atall ~ I can easily pull the hard plastic pipes out and that's a bad thing .

Tom Hansen @ the Mercedes Classic Center of course sold me these service items so I'll try to replace all of them under the hood to - night , maybe that'll help .

It's nice to drive this European Spec. car ~ it's a real rocketship and yet has almost no smoke ~ only under full throttle when the turbo is fuly spooled up and the car is passing everything else on the road , no other time .

Very nice info page. I guess I had the spec. right. One thing it would be very helpful to have a helper run the feeler gauge. I've been told old German mechanics have a third arm that only comes out at times like this. max
