[diesel_mercedes] Re : The BMC Bug

Yeah well ;

I wisely avoided LBC's when I was a young lad (Pops had a '37 Bentley St. James two seater in the 1960's) but I eventually gave in and bought a two owner 1967 MGB GT MKI tourer , as I rattled it home my then young son came out and commented " it looks like a James Bond typ of car Pops " ~ I had fun with it but in the end , it was still a wretched old & slow MG that leaked water in and oil out so I offed it at a dead loss , the guy who bought it was shickled titless & drove it non stop from my house to East Grunt Arizona.....

BMC Corp. does things very similar vein to how GM Corp. does , mondo parts interchangability *if* you know what fits what......

Simple robust design that's easy to maintain .

Morgans are very nice too .

I'm planning to take pictures to show the progress from the moment I get it, all dirty/mossy/etc. to presentable as time goes on.  It should be fun!

I always thought it stood for Bad Motor Cars, but then I had a Morgan so what do I know.

If you've not yet forgotten the misery brought on by your last wretched (if fun , cute & cheap) BMC product , may I interest you in a Metropolitan Nash ? . they're BMC products with an American twist , fun to drive , easy to work on , dead simple & cheap to run , you can modify them to go fairly quick using BMC parts....

Nate,

My viral onset seems to be much more oriented to the other side of the pond, but will allow the Metropolitan Kelvinator to be a confirmed cousin of Morris Garage.

Besides, I still have my tweed jackets and deerstalker hats. Those apparel possessions make MGites all the more likely to hold for good this time. Perhaps the only things that will stop this relapse is an outcropping of vacuum leaks or glow plugs falling off the wagon.

[diesel_mercedes] W-123 Grille

So ;

SWMBO's Euro Spec. 300TD is looking pretty spiffy since the re paint , she's driving it and loving it too .

I decided to replace the crispy old grille , it turns out I had to buy a whole new URO brand grille just to get the plastic insert & aluminum strips , I won't use that surround because it's simply _awful_ .

I'll polish up a nice spare surround and swap over all the original German hardware , install a new Dealer star and a cherry badge I found & she'll be as pleased as punch I'm sure .

Last night I tossed all my spare Palomino W-123 head rests in the trash , they're nice and all but I don't need 'em and they're worthless .

I tossed out the spare early style park light lenses too , the bulb holders for those are NLA =8-) .

[diesel_mercedes] Re : Rear seat belt on 300TD

Oooo ~ not a fun job .

Possibly it's just too stiff from accumulated sweat & dust ? .

Fold the backrest down , extend the belt fully & use clothes pins to hold it extended , soak / brush gently in a bowl of warm water , blot dry and leave extended overnight to fully dry.... this works wonders on recalcitrant seatbelts .

Hi, Tony.

The paint code is on the horizontal bar in front of the radiator.  I just asked this same question about my soon-to-be 240D.  The code is 3 digits (the actual paint code) followed by a letter (the first letter of the paint manufacturing company).  735 is astral silver.

Good luck!
