 Far as taking those switches apart, if it is like my '85 300SD,  be ready for the wires to try to escape to other places!  I took one apart and all 8 of those wires tried to swap places, along with a small ball bearing too, if I remember correctly!

Honestly I'd do that but the plastic parts are broken and the lever popped out.  Time for a new one....Lawrence Rhodes....still wondering about the heater core replacement on my 1980 300TD   are they all the same too....

I cleaned all of mine (8 of them). But, for the cheap price of the ebay ones, I would take a look at them and save yourself the hassle. On the other hand, cleaning your old ones is a 30 minute job - unless you drop the little round bearings.
