[diesel_mercedes] Parts

' URO  ' is a brand name for low cost European auto parts .

Some of it (especially rubber items) is worthless crap .

Some of it is O.K. ~

I just didn't want to pop $500 + for an original Mercedes one but I might just because I'm tired of fooling with it and I only like fixing things once , believe it or not .

Gives me more time to teach my self other things.....

I need to find a source for ' Monark ' brand injector nozzles ~ as far as I can tell , the only ones still made in Germany and I have as of yet to find anyone who didn't like them .

Quality parts?  Finding quality condensers for old point type ignitions is a challenge.  You would think

Mallory brand would be good.  Nope.  My Bosch glow plugs?  Junk, made in India.

Good luck.

[diesel_mercedes] Alternative AC Charge

THANK YOU Bubba ! .

I wasn't aware R134a is flammable .

The best mixture of "hot shot" is 5 percent propane and the rest butane.  If you buy fuel for a butane camping stove that has a little propane for winter or "all season" use it will be about right.  It even has the correct connector for use with an R12 connector.  I don't think it cools better than R12, and it is flammable, but then so is R134.

[diesel_mercedes] Old Man Auto Repair

I'll keep at it as long as I can.....

The cool thing is : now I don't have to rush anything so I can drive it to work the next day..... .

The down part is : I'm no longer having much $ to spend on parts....

I discovered someone wants to pay me like SIX THOUSAND DOLLARS for n old VW Beetle (like a '69) so I may just go back to buying dereilict and junked Beetles to re hab and re sell , I never once had one come back ....

First though , I need to address _MY_ dead vehicles,  then if I want I can go back to old VW's for side $ .

Brian (anyone) : if you find any old W123 Wagons , I have need of some Wagon specific parts, most notably the third rear seat belts , I'll travel to take 'em out , don't want anyone to ship me mis matched belts I cannot use , tried that already , it was a no go , buckles didn't match up / work .

[diesel_mercedes] Oil Pan Pixies [8 Attachments]

O.K. ;

I SWEAR it has to be evil Oil Pan Pixies sneaking into my back yard at night because if I ever heard/felt the car bottoming out like this , I'd change how I drove over that particular area .

Pic. # 1 : oil pan with a multitude of dents and scrapes , the corner near the drain plugs eventually gets too thin and cracks , beginning a slow drip I discover after I've parked it in my Son's or Shirley's spotless driveway *:-B nerd .

Pic. # 2 & 3 : Armed with a new oil pan and the usually gone missing tranny cooler steel line anti-wear grommets (part # included so you can order up two for each old car you own , Mercedes or other brand) I began ~

Pic. # 4 : the inside of an original Mercedes oil pan , notice they even paint and bake it _inside_ to help avoid corrosion etc.

Pic. # 5 : removing the oil pan reveals what the inside of a well maintained engine looks like ~ you may buy it full of sludge and dirt but frequent BLISTERING HOT oil and filter changes will make any old junk look this good in less than 10,000 miles .

Pic. # 6 : I added a Rare Earth Magnet from Harbor Freight (HANDY HINT : cheaper than magnetic drain plugs !) to the old mangled drain plug ~ not sure it you can see it but about 1/5th of it is ground off (I really must find a factory skid plate)

Pic. # 7 : the finished job , all assembled and a few hours of hand scrubbing the entire bottom of the car to remove all the accumulated oil .

Pic. # 8 : proper Supervision is essential ! Gizmo was right on the job , I think he's studying the Civil Service Manual for advancement.....

Even me dropping tools on the cement doesn't bother him nor wake him up *:x lovestruck .

So , that was Thursday's work marathon , my Son had been mentioning smelling burned oil and sure enough there was more than 1/8" of it collected on the top of the muffler , almost 1/4" built up on the head pipe to tranny bracket so it smells much less now .

Onwards , ever onwards .

O.K. then ;

I disconnected the blower fan and tested the fuse again , it didn't blow so I removed the fan , a near new URO brand ($100) one and it spins O.K. , maybe a *touch* more drag than an original one .

I dug out my Siemens brand blower motor removed from a W123 recently and tested it , it ran faster and more powerfully (jumped out of my hand when I energized it) so I installed it then ran some errands to see if it'd blow the 8 ampere fuse ~ it didn't so I guess my brandy new $100 URO blower is junk , free to anyone here if you want it .

Now I'm testing the Kilma II PBU's I found looking through my parts , the one in the car (a rebuilt by Programma) seems to work fine *but* it gets too warm for comfort on it's bottom so I want to test my spares and see if they get hot too ~ so far only tested one , it's temp wheel had poor contact on the cold end and blew warm to hot air , wouldn't close the hot water valve 100 % so I cut it's power and worked the wheel to and fro a bunch , now it seems O.K.  .

Turns out more people than I cannot spell , I tried Siemens and then Seimens and there's almost as many items on E-Bay under both spellings *:-B nerd.

RE: [diesel_mercedes] Fuse # 8 HVAC Fan

Minutia from the Internet (remember Miss Elliott in 10th grade English class?) …from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_before_E_except_after_C

"I before E, except after C" is a mnemonic rule of thumb for English spelling. If one is unsure whether a word is spelled with the sequence ei or ie, the rhyme suggests that the correct order is ie unless the preceding letter is c, in which case it is ei.

Then there are the ie and ei pronunciations …

https://www.englishclub.com/spelling/rules-ie-ei.htm

Test will be on Monday.  Bill in Oregon
