Installed Bosch voltage regulator.  No Dice.  12.9v battery now 12.5 after 10 minutes running.  Veg system used some so I now say if nothing else is wrong a new alternator is needed.  Is there a fusible link or fuse to check?   No higher than 12.17 while running. Switch on the veg system it goes to 12.7 and loses a 10th of a volt per minute. Something is wrong.  The alternator isn't putting out.  Is there a place to check the alternator output before it goes to the battery?  Lawrence Rhodes

Check the corroded contacts in the terminal block on the top of the passenger fender.  While it is possible for the alternator to fail, it doesn't seem to happen often.

Question about tires. I need a set for the Subaru so I called Les Schawb. 70,000 mile Toyo are $800. I checked at WalMart a 70,000 mile set of Goodyear is $500. Both these include tax which is high up here. WalMart charges extra  for life time balance and road hazard, which their quote included. So if I did not want those it would be $76 less. I hardly ever get tires re-balanced,  never get around to it. Once I tried to get a replacement from Les schawb  on road hazard but they told me the tire was destroyed, which was what I thought road hazard was for, so that makes me think about paying extra for that too. Is Les Shawb worth it? Max

[diesel_mercedes] Tires

Go find a friend who has a COSTCO card and try them .

I buy my Micheliens there at a deep dicsount , I carry them out and never bother with balancing them as that's for cheap tires IMO .

COSTCO says free rotation and flat repairs , I don't do those either .

Most any tire ' warranty ' is worthless , they " pro rate " the tire , after 20 mi8nutes driving they figure it's 90 % worn out and charge you 90 % of the new tire price .

O.K. then ;

Clarify something for me : when it didn't want to start , did the usual buzzer and glow plug light come on but nothing happened when you turn the key to crank the starter ? .

Tires now....RE: [diesel_mercedes] Re: Dying battery. Alternator light didn't come on!

Costco?  I've used them with Michilen on my 220D and other cars, no issues.  Recently put

a set of Mich on my F150 with a local independent shop – same / lower cost than Costco.

Costco has other tires besides Michilen.  Might check a local independent shop.  My son

put Big O on his GMC truck and Yukon and raved about the service / cost / quality.

I was told by Henry's Mercedes expert that the low charge light never comes on when the alt. fails. It never did on my car when it failed. Max
