This group provides a forum for owners and operators of diesel powered motorhomes and 5th wheel tractors to discuss mechanical issues, regulatory issues (US, Canada), ownership, insurance, campground accommodations, trip reports/suggestions, and other topics relevant to large RVs and the people who drive them.

She noticed it's smoking a bit @ hot idle , I'd love to overhaul or rebuild the engine and tranny in this car but the $ evades us for now .

Call me chicken, or call me brilliant - but ever since I put a new radiator in Mary, I have always used official MB coolant in both cars. They sit on 175F (or 83C) and I am a happy camper. Usually order a jug from Autohaus AZ when I am filling an order for other things so I can get some free shipping. I lived with a hot car (90-100C) and I don't want to go back there again.

Both cars (1983 300d's) got new radiator caps. Mary got a new P/S pump gasket, and got her 5 year old hood pad removed courtesy of my local car wash and super vacuum. Next up will be installation of an air filter for Mary, and a change of coolant (after I unthread the broken plastic radiator plug). And maybe I will replace the rear drivers door check, and put on 2 new muffler hangers (with the chain inside). Nothing major, just fun stuff now that autumn has come upon us.
