O.K. so it's been bugger-all hot here , over 103° F here every afternoon so I finally decided to enjoy a bit of R-12 induced air conditioning , my Klima II seems to work pretty well and God knows , my trusty Mercedes Diesel Sports Coupe goes _much_
faster and handles far better than my old , slow , noisy and hot Shop Truck does .
As I was waiting for a traffic light in the blistering heat I noticed the brake pedal begin to sink ever so slowly about 1/2" ~ this is a very bad thing indeed and means the master cylinder is failing , the internal rubber cups have begun to fail , allowing pressure to pass them instead of the pressure causing the cups lip seal edges to hold firmly .
From experience I know an ATE (OEM brand) Master cylinder retails at close to $250 and the good guy price is $130 ~ $150 so I headed off to Rock Auto where I found a Centric branded one for $60.79 ~ this equals FREE FREIGHT in addition to lower co$t so I added in the two front brake cylinders my old Chevy (drum brake) Shop Truck needs along with a new rear brake hose for the truck just because I didn't like the way it looked last time I was underneath it doing routine Mtce.
In the end my total Rock Auto order came to $103.89 and I'll do the labor my ownself
including bleeding the whole system using the brake bleeder I've mentioned here before ~
Le$$ $ than the master cylinder alone much less than the co$t of having some Shop Boob touch my Mercedes and spilling brake fluid on the paint , not bleeding it to my picky-assed satisfaction , leaving grime on the seat , grease on the steering wheel etc.
Just another day in Paradise =8-) .
