This sounds like crappo aftermarket grommet .

The real deal isn't terribly expen$ive , I've replaced them on all of my Mercedes' and so far only the one on the 240D has shown any problems , all fit *PEREFECTLY* and DO NOT LEAK .

Tom will get you the correct one coming quickly just send him your VIN OFF LIST .

Tom,

The seal seems short along one side, 1/4"-3/8". I'm assuming the glass was off to one side, if that's possible.
I first noticed a gap on the the driver's side upper corner, yet it seems short all the way down.
Could it be the wrong glass or seal? Coupe, etc?

Thanks

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Windshield seal replacement- problems

The coupe glass is definitely different than the sedan glass, I tried it once.  As I remember the height is shorter on the coupe.  It is probably the case that the seal would be smaller.

I guess anything is possible. I don't know how much different the sedan and coupe seals are as far as dimensions.

Sounds like the installer might have done something wrong. If it was the incorrect seal (from a coupe or something) then it wouldn't have gone in at all. You say it's the outer upper edge of the seal that's not seated properly?

Keep us posted on how it goes .

Soft tissue damage to one's spine is a nut buster ~ take good care of Wifey-Poo and make sure she doesn't lift improperly etc.

Our '82 240D keep running better & better , still has fungus , tranny still drips a lot .

If the fuel filter doesn't turn clear soon , I'll dump a whole pint of Startrol in the tank next time I fill up .

Victor is struggling with adapting a Sanden AC compressor to my Coupe , he's decided to go to Mexico on vacation to - day and so will address it when he gets back .

Thanks for the advice on the windshield.

The guy at the glass shop said they'll have to take the window out, and put it back in.
He first tried to get out of it, mentioning some seals being short, yet quickly changed tone, when confronted with the seal being a MB part et al. I'll schedule a time to drop it off.

Yes Max, my wife was in a bad wreck a year or so ago, and after we bought another Volvo 240 wagon, someone ran into the back of it 4 days later. I put on a hatch from the PAP and transferred all the better parts off the smashed car.
The wife and the Volvo are doing well and staying out of trouble.
