I'm running an adjustable one from this guy on my 300D with the fattywagons alternator:

Works great.
On my 240D I'm running a souped-up alternator from these guys:

That one has whatever regulator they put on it, works fine. There are other vendors on ebay selling alternators for our cars including pulleys. I gave these guys the specs on my pulley and asked them to put a pulley on mine and they did it for no extra charge.
There is a DIY on regulator boosting here:

[diesel_mercedes] Re: Voltage Regulator #
Jim ;
I don't know .
If you buy the suggested item in _BOSCH_ brand , I'm sure you'll be happy with it .
The one I posted , likes to charge slightly over 14 VDC until the battery is fully charged then it tapers off but in any case it *always* charges better than the other one sfrom various off brands .
FWIW , I see them made in Spain & Turkey , both work as well as the German ones .
I need to find a source for new brushes and solder them in as I have two or three with bad brushes .
I'd give this one you're considering a whirl and post your results ~ we cannot possibly have too many good Bosch part #'s to choose from ! .
If it works out for you , i'll buy one for my spares .

Hey Nate,
The recommended p/n for my 82 240D and 84 300D is 1 197 311 028 - is the 1 197 311 023 better than the 1 197 311 028 or is it the same thing? They look the same and have the same amperage range listed.
