[diesel_mercedes] Re : HAPPY WEEKEND !

_MY_ driveway has two metal drip pans so the cement remains fairly clean , of course to - day I was doing two jobs at once so when I dropped my stubby ratchet & deep 14MM socket , it fell into the just filled oil drain pan underneath the truck & splashed oil out....

All German cars leak oil ! I just work assidiously at staunching the leaks...

The Nash's spin on oil filter adapter's special square section O-Ring recently began dripping again , they (and the MGs I pinch the spin on oil filter kits from) all tend to fail this gasket every two or three years , only _once_ does any Mechanic or owner foolishly try tightening up the bolt as that causes catastrophic failure and a Valdez like experiance.....

I was ruminating on this as I drove to SWMBO's place, maybe I could wash the gasket's groove clean with Ether (starting fluid) and then lightly coat the special O-Ring with " The Right Stuff " from Permatex before buttoning it all back up again ? .

If you actually work in your driveway , this causes it to grease up much faster than the car ever leaks on it so whenever I wash my engine
I make a point of washing the driveway , drip pans and usually the chassis too , might as well once you have de - greaser , rubber gloves , rags , brushes and everything else all gooey & covered in dead dinosaurs .

Nate,

It's pretty hard for me to believe that you have a single drop of oil on your driveway. Me now.....an oil pit makes sense. But not you, who continues to fix every little problem with every car you own....even the Nash Kelvinator.

As it's the Valentine's Day weekend , I suspect many here will be busy.

Me , I have much works to do , Shop Truck fiddles and get my old VW towed out of Tom's parking Garage , clean the leaked oil off SWMBO's driveway , maybe fix the horn on her Wagon hopefully I'll be able to do a thing , _anything_ for My Sweet , and , it'd be nice to see if I can actually squeeze in some rest or sleep if the danged sciatic nerve will give me a break .

A bit of junkyard walking excersize would be swell too .

Who knows ? maybe even run my filthy Diesel Sports Coupe through the automatic car wash , it's running fine but really looks nasty .

Re: [diesel_mercedes] 1984 300SD door lock assembly

Probably the striker for the latch.

Flea Bay 190339880276 for the right side, 260872025230 for the left. Others available if you search!

Check to see if your door seal has bulged or loosened. You can also adjust the lock. There is also a little (1") hard rubber piece that can work its way out.

Re: [diesel_mercedes] When cars were CARS

Oh I didn't see the pics before.  COOL.  I think someone I dated in Burbank had a 57 station wagon like that one.

You wanna see some cool old cars watch "Hiway Patrol" which was on in the wee hours last night (around 3am)

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: Re : So why are these different?

Oh no, I only WISH that was all we had left to be on the road.  I had already decided to change the fluid and do the filter when it gets here.

I just reserved one from NAPA...phone just rang...yeah, the closest one is down in Houston...4 hrs from us, they said I might have made the cut off time and "could" have it tomorrow.  If not it'll be Tuesday.  That's good enough for me.  Price isn't that different from AutoHausAZ once you add in shipping.  NAPA has a whopping 10% discount for online orders.

If all you you have left to get on the road is the tranny filter, and for some reason can't find one, just change the fluid, and plan to change the filter soon. Unless the fluid was all burnt and brown it should be fine, for a bit, if you just change the fluid. Don't wait another 30K to change it, yet a few 1000 miles won't change much. That said, if the fluid looks and smells nasty, changing the filter first would be a good idea.

Re: Re : So why are these different? Posted by: "Trish Dougherty" purrfectharmonyfarm@wifi45.com patricia_dougherty Date: Thu Feb 9, 2012 9:09 am ((PST)) Crap. I was just over there. I'll have to see if I can talk Kevin into climbing under the car to take a pic for me. He's tearing off 40+ yr old siding and putting up new stuff...he's not much in the mood to crawl under a car after a day of that. But for a quick pic, he might. Was that a freaking-benz? No, it's my fault. I know, I know...I jumped into this much like jumping off of a cliff without looking first. *Sigh* (I did that once with a career move...oops.) Don't think that out of frustration I haven't considered selling the car the way it sits and use the money for another one that's already put together. Not only am I NOT a quitter, but I KNOW that would be a huge mistake and I KNOW I'm gonna love this car once it's back on the road. We're really not that far from being road ready. This weekend we need to: Find that bushing that's missing on the transmission. Do a major PS flush & put in the other fluids just to get it started. I'll order that darned filter I didn't know about and put it on when it gets here. Kevin's still got to figure out how/where to cut & weld that CPR & put the exhaust on. I "think" that's all for basic operation. Then of course there is the endless list of items...door locks, switch the passenger seat bottom for the drivers, wash the goats milk out of my back floor mat, see if the a/c works, I'll need it soon enough oh and find "new" speakers for the back...the former owner blew them out.

Re: [diesel_mercedes] See, now we have degenerated into talks of gardens.

I love it!

I haven't planted my trunk, yet if I need to pick up some plants or
other bulky items, and don't want to drive the pickup, I remove the
lower back seat cushion, which opens up a bunch of space. Once I picked
up a 7' catcus, before I had the pickup, it stuck out the window, and
generated a lot of stares driving through town.
