Air in the system. Will take a long time to purge it.

[diesel_mercedes] 126 will not start After Running Dry

O.K. ;

The primer pump , if it's black it doesn't turn to unlock , you just have to pump it at least 35 times to prime things .

If the pump's handle is white (or grey,brownish with filth etc.) and has a knurled edge , you can unscrew it while it's down , uncrew it until you feel the threads skip , then pull it up and depress , repeat this until the primary filter is full and you feel resistance with each down stroke .

Either way , when you try to start the engine , hold the throttle at least 1/2 way down and crank it , once it begins to fire DO NOT let off the key nor throttle until the engine speeds up and begins to run on all five cylinders ! .

Once it's running fast on all five cylinders , you have to hold the throttle there for at least 5 minutes to bleed every last bit of air out of things else it'll stall out and be *very* hard to re start .

I hope you filled the secondary fuel filter with some sort of Diesel Fuel additive ? .

NOTE : you'll need  a 100 % fully charged battery to re start it after running it dry , moreso in cold weather ~ a hair dryer or any other warm air source near the fresh air intake helps greatly here .

Here's my story. I ran my '81 126 out of fuel (don't even ask how). Will not start after adding fuel. Filled secondary filter and primary. After a few cranks, the primary is empty of fuel. Tried to use the manual pump to bleed air but darn thing will not turn by hand. Pliers will turn it just a little at a time. Any suggestion???????

I think it was Autopartswarehouse.com. I had found it on several sites, at the time they where the lease expensive.

The one I got looked like this:

I think it was a bosch.

Use the old sensors for now, and change them when you can.

Look on line. I think I picked up my aux coolant pump for $69 a couple years ago.

My car did not have one and heat was OK, but it was a long run for the coolant to make it to the WVO tank, knowing that these cars seem to need a boost in the coolant circulation department, I put it in near the WVO tand for some added help, especially in the winter.

Do it as affordable fix while you decide what to do next. Anything is better than freezing in a car.  Bill in Oregon
