I keep a small mag flashlight in the console for such things. There are many articles on "brightening" the dash lights which comes from a poor design; I think Mercedes Source even has a You Tube video on the subject. Some have even used LED's to light things up. Personally, I don't mind driving without dash lights although it bugs me at times.

Subject: [diesel_mercedes] My car is possessed!
OK so today is the 4th time I've driven my car since we got it back on the road and only the 3rd time ever to drive at night.
We were leaving camp when all of a sudden the car started screaming at us from what we figured was the emergency blinker button. We turned them on and off and eventually the screaming stopped.
Then the seat belt light started blinking on and off, then the glow plug light! Then the light for the shifter went on and off! All the way home...45 minutes it was a freaking light show on my dash! Oh and those are the ONLY dash lights I have. I use the light from my phone to see how fast I'm going. But in this car I really don't have to worry about going too fast.
The car is still blowing oil like crazy. I feel sorry for anyone behind me. It's embarrassing! I put in a quart of Motor Honey Stop Leak, drove the specified miles...150 and it's still leaking. I put in at least a gallon of oil today! Tomorrow when I go into town I'll pick up MORE oil and another quart of the MHSL, I guess. *Sigh*
