100 miles per GALLON of oil used ? ouch , that's gotta hurt .
IMO , it's time to bite the bullet and have this fixed right or you'll just wind up disgusted soon and either run it out of oil and junk it , or set it aside " for a little while " then junk it several years later and never discover how nice a Mercedes Diesel can be .
It's crunch time Trish .
Bummer but there it is .
If it's any consolation , my new Shop Truck is a 1969 Chevy C/10 I bought in Dallas , it burns a quart every 250 miles , I've staunched most of the leaks , the head is shot (loose valve guides) and needs rebuilding , bad enough on a $5,000 truck but I've also had to repair or rebuild most other things on it too .
It also fouls the #'s 2 & 5 spark plugs with oil every 300 or so miles , this means I have to stop and scrape 'em clean & swap with other cylinders before Motoring on in delirious happiness , the point being : old cars bring with them extra works , no matter what brand or how cherry it may be .
You're in to your knees with this car now , I suggest taking the deep plunge , you'll see why once it's done and your bank is broken .
The electrical gremlins , I know they're fairly simple but it's hard to diagnose & repair by Long Distance . the dash lights are dead simple , everything else needs to be seen in person so sort out .
C'est La Vie , Non ? . =8-) .
BTW : I got your Off List message right at low ebb , I didn't finish reading it and now I can't get to yahoo mail , all I see is a blank white page .
