[Diesel-RVs] Rid-X versus Thetford Tissue Digester

I read at another forum that both treatments, at 16 ounces, cost about
$9 a treatment.

Thetford claims that the bacteria that they offer in their RV-specific
digester is a "fast acting" agent (i.e., it hits water and works
quickly to develop the friendly bacteria for RV's).

So, if I were to choose on the basis of the "science" then it seems
logical that one would use a fast acting bacterial substance versus a
slower-acting substance (for home use).

When the dollars the same, why use a septic tank substance versus an
RV-specific additive? If Rid-X were far cheaper, I could understand
the motivation but one would still have to question whether it just
"feels" good to keep using it in the face of its questionable
results....I am suggesting that throwing Rid-X into your tank might
make one feel good and maybe that alone is enough justification to use
it....

I know a lot of people put additives into their engine crankcase oil
in the face of substantial proof that they do little good - esp. when
one considers the maturation and evolution of the oil additive
packages that come with your standard oils today. But, again, if
Miracle Mystery Oil makes you feel great, the that's good enough for
me....but, the same principle applies:

...........if you are careful about mixing enough water
in your tank at each flush, you will not have any troubles - - esp.,
as someone else just pointed out, that you use RV tank friendly toilet
tissue. Also, flushing out your tank is absolutely another way to
prevent build-up leading to a clog.

Someone else asked how much PineSol that we use: a 24 ounce bottle:
2/3's goes into the black tank and 1/3 into the dishwater/gray
tank.....and add a few gallons of water and it will slosh around. It
takes care of odors and again, I have been using this treatment for 15
years without a single problem with my seals or whatever.

The stuff that we put into these tanks is a far stronger substance
than PineSol and PineSol smells terrific even compared to the RV tank
additives that are far more expensive.
