Re: [Diesel-RVs] Rid-X

Hi Russ,

I bet it is from your grey tank. In my coach the Splendide washer dryer
drain trap dries out from time to time when its not used and creates a smell
if the the water in the grey tank is more than three days old . A short
rinse cycle will fill the trap and the smell disappears.

The sink or shower can also let grey tank odors escape if not used
frequently. The grey water smells as bad as the black used too before Rid-X,
the Devil made me say that ! <BG>

Seriously if you keep your drain traps full and empty the grey water tank
daily or every other day it will not smell. If I'm in a place where that can
not be done I will add some Rid-x to the grey tank otherwise I use nothing.

Any one of the Venturi design roof vents will also help. But like everything
else in the RV world, one size NEVER fits all.

Jim,
I do have a problem in my coach. Since I did not buy it new, I do not know
how it was
cared for in the first 10 years. In the hot weather, I notice this mainly
while on the
road (as opposed to be camped for several days) an odor from what smells
like the black
tank, toilet. My toilet is in a separate room in the bath. I keep water in
the toilet,
and the seal is good to not leak out during the day's drive. I have tried
some of the
commercial holding tank stuff, doubling the dose. I have tried Tide Laundry
soap and lots
of water for a drive. Better but still the odor is there. Where it is coming
from I cannot
tell either as the vent tube is hidden in the wall, but from the top, it
appears to be
open. Any suggestions as to cleaning and de-odorizing. I will try the Pine
sol, I have not
used it yet.
This is not my first RV, but probably the 7-8th? Never had this problem
before, I
usually keep one of the commercial tank de-odorizes in if parked for a while
or, like you
say, nothing, just flush out every couple of days if the weather is not real
hot.. over
80.

: Russ,
:
