The glow plug relay is inside the left front fender , it's a black plastic rectangular box with two wires connected to it , one is unfused battery current , the other one connects to the series wired glow plugs .
In your year Mercedes , if *one* glow plug burns out and goes open circuit , the rest stop working and the car becomes very difficult to start .
Replace all , not just one , if you find a dead one .
DO NOT use Kragen , Autozone , Pep Boys etc. champion or autolite glow plugs ! they're often bad right out of the box .
