I have a different attitude.  As a Dodge/Cummins owner, I know that the engine is expected to outlast three pick up trucks., even now toying with whether next will be Chev or Ford.  Same deal with the 617.xxx engine, could outlast a couple of Mercs, 'specially in the snow/rust belt.. So in any case, it's worth prolonging the life of the engine. You could probably spin a bunch of crap out of diesel fuel straight from the pump but the engines are made to tolerate a certain amount of crud. Nothing lasts forever and for me, it's not worth it to try and get an engine to last forever if the car is going to rust around it anyway. I get 2000 miles out of a 5 micron filter on wvo that I let sit in a barrel for 30 days. Jim
