Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: Going off grid- Bill

I went for ten days with no gas in the middle of winter in Sedona, AZ. No heat other than the fireplace, no stove or oven, no hot water.  Half our town was without, the other half had a lot of visitors for warm showers I suspect. The first few days my parents used the microwave to heat water for sponge baths.  They probably had friends on the "other side of town" that still had gas, or even electric water heaters!  I was a young teenager and working full time, so I couch surfed at friends homes.  Even our restaurant had a work around...they got someone to make a camp stove that fit perfectly into our gas grill slot.  We served anything that we could grill.  I suspect we also had a microwave.  We served everything on throw away..made my job as a dishwasher/busgirl much easier!

Ah yes, I see fence chargers on most of the fences and gates out here.

A lot of folks around Seattle have been without power for 5 days now. Too bad I guess. You dont need to store power for a electrical fence, you can buy a solar fence charger, they work very good with a long range. Max
