Also, check to see if there is any "slack" in the accelerator linkage
between the foot pedal and the engine. Watch the linkage on the engine
while your slave presses lightly on the accelerator pedal. There should
be no wasted movement of the linkage. I will be obvious, I think, how
to take up any slack. I did this on my 83 and improved the acceleration
quite a bit. More movement with less pedal. You don't generally fix
this things all at once but one problem at a time.
