Re: [Diesel-RVs] Re: ? about adding an external propane tank

My grill has it's own regulator and I tap off my tank to run it. therefore if you were to just put an extenda stay before your regulator and close off your tank it would run off the outher tank. When that runs out then you have the choice as to which tank you want to run on Just like so many trailers have two tanks on the tounge.

quick connect on the low pressure side of the LP system, if I close the
onboard tank using the solenoid is there any reason I could not
backfill the system from a large external tank via the quickconnect as
long as there is a regulator on the external tank?

Joe, if you notice when you have your propane tank filled, the dealer
uses a high pressure electric pump to transfer the liquid propane from
his tank into your tank. If you just connected the two tanks together,
the vapor pressure will equalize, but you won't transfer much (if any)
liquid propane from the external tank to the onboard tank.

I'd suggest finding a propane dealer to rent you a larger tank, perhaps
250 or 500 gallons, then close the valves on our onboard tank and
operate entirely from the external tank. To do that, of course, you'll
need a pressure regulator for the external tank and a few extra feet of
hose with the proper fittings.
