The Vapor output of the on board tank is high pressure gas. It then passes through the regulator and becomes low pressure gas. Adding any tank past the on board regulator will give you high pressure gas unless you add a regulator to the add on tank. Camping World sells a Stay-A-While Deluxe Tee fitting which allows you to add an external tank for $39.00. Item # 30337 page 73 of their master catalog. Chuck B

I have the schematics here of the system and would want to look at the
actual plumbing prior to doing this but it looks like the onboard tank goes
to regulator, then to solenoid then to entire MH. The takeoff for the quick
connect is past the solenoid on the low pressure side. I am hoping to shut
off the onboard tank with the solenoid and only use LP from the external
tank. Does this sound reasonable?

Running on an external tank usually does not backfill the MH tank but
replaces it. The MH tank is shut off and the external tank with its own
regulator supplies the MH. I do not believe that you can backfill an onboard
tank.
